House hunting! YAY! Ken and I have been looking at a lot of places on Zillow, and he sent me the link to one fairly close to our area. We went and looked at it – it’s 4 bed & 2 bath with 2,280 (that’s a LOT!) square feet of space on half an acre of land. But – it’s a modular home (manufactured instead of stick built). We fell in love with it immediately but were worried about the logistics of a prefab home. After doing some research, we found that they’re actually built sturdier than a regular house! It needs some work, but it’s pretty much just cosmetic stuff that we’re not too worried about right now.
This week we looked at 5 more places, but the more we look at the more we want the modular. It’s perfect! I’m in the process of getting pre-approved for a loan right now and it’s slow going. I’m really hoping we can get this one, though, we both have our hearts set on it!

If you’ve bought your own home, do you have any tips or advice for me on the loan/mortgage process?

What’s in your mailbox, loverlies? Link me up!

  1. Sam

Yay! House hunting is so exciting, isn’t it?! A tip that I have for you: be prepared to spend more money up-front than you think you’ll actually have to spend. It’s not just the down payment, but legal fees and a bunch of other fees they tack on there that you might not be aware of or prepared for.
That sounds like a fantastic home for first-time buyers! Houses are so expensive here, there’s no way we would have been able to afford a house like that our first time around. Good for you! :)

  2. Jessica @ a GREAT read

Ooh nice! Haven’t read this series but hope you enjoy this one!

And that’s great about the house! Hope things fall through where they need to and that you can make this place your new home! Sounds like you will have plenty of room for book storage! ;)

    Happy Reading!

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. I can’t afford to buy a house just yet, but I know the feeling of going house-hunting! I’ve been in UK for five years and had my fair share of views. I actually do love going house-hunting. With my current flat, I was making plans to move from London to Cambridgeshire (where I live now) and it was kind of a situation in which I had only that weekend to find a suitable, affordable place and define everything. The moment we set foot in this flat, we knew we found our place! It had never happened with all the other viewings and we just felt it, it was the right place. This was over a year ago, and I know I’m not changing location until I will be ready to buy my first house.
I occasionally look on zoopla or rightmove just for the fun of it, and I sometimes find beautiful… no, gorgeous properties. However, I want my perfect place, so I keep flat-pack homes as an option. They are way cheaper than “regular” homes, and they get built in half the time. Plus, I’d get to have my perfect dream home, with exactly everything I picture I’d have. :)

  4. Have fun and don’t settle.. honestly that’s the best I can do. I’m currenlt house hunting but choices will not be made until a year or two from now :(
