Weekly Recap

Around the blogosphere:

I’m not going to go into the fiasco of last weekend. I’m not going to post about it. But I will say this: I am appalled. I am scared. I wish I had stuck with “Geo” instead of putting my real name out there for anyone to see. I shouldn’t have to feel this way.

And to authors who think we’re “bullies” for writing a negative review I say: You should consider yourself blessed that someone actually wanted to read your book and took the time to pick it up, even if they didn’t like it. Do you know how many hundreds (or thousands) of other books are out there that we want to read? That we could have been reading instead? And yet we chose yours. What the hell do you have to complain about?

I’m only going to share one post about what happened, because it was my favorite and I feel like everyone should read it: Katie McGarry’s advice on handling reviews

Blog news:

I hit my three year milestone this week! My blogiversary was Thursday but I posted about it on Wednesday…the giveaway is still going, check it out on the sidebar!

Also, as you can see I have a new design! Not that shocking, seeing as how I tend to change it every 4-6 months. I was nowhere near happy with the last one, it was something I threw together and honestly didn’t really think through. I hated the old button and it’s been driving me nuts for a while now. I was hoping to get a custom design, but 1) the only designer I would pay is currently booked to her eyeballs, and 2) it seems really ridiculous to pay someone to design my blog when I do design myself.

I’m really hoping that this new design will stick. (And by stick I mean I won’t get sick of it in a month, ha.) I want to get new business cards to match my design, so I wanted it to be something simple yet professional.

Also, KAREN MARIE MONING IS COMING TO NEWPORT. That’s like, an hour away from me!!! AHHHHH!!! I had a freaking fangirl meltdown when I first saw that. First of all, she doesn’t really have appearances. She’s always seemed untouchable to me. Second of all, she’s my favorite Adult writer! Is there anyone else within a decent distance of Newport, KY that knows who she is or wants to go?! Because I will DEFINITELY be there!

What I’ve been up to this week:

Well, our furnace died Tuesday night. It was 40 degrees outside. As you can imagine, it was f*cking cold in our house! I was able to borrow my parents’ space heater, so it was at least comfortable in our bedroom. The rest of the house, not so much. Thank heavens we have an awesome HVAC guy that came out to fix it with little notice. So it was only for 24 hours! (And thankfully it wasn’t 20 outside instead of 40)

  1. Well, at least your TBR pile doesn’t suffer and you get that one week to try to make a dent in it! There’s that, but totally feel you on the sadness of not getting anything new! When I have weeks like that going…I find I’ll buy an ebook off my wishlist just to get something! LOL! It’s a sickness I tell you! ;)

    Happy Reading!

    Here’s my STS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower :)

  2. Completely agree about last weekend’s event. It IS scary. And I like your response. No one should go to those lengths over a negative review… I mean, they picked up your book in the first place, over all of the other books that they wanted to read.

  3. …I feel SO out of the loop….I JUST read about this ‘incident’ from Oh the Books! links. SHEESH.
But more importantly: HAPPY 3RD BLOGIVERSARY!!!

  4. I’m with you one the name thing. I mean I go by Berls on the blog, but I’ve shared my real name enough that I’m easy to find. I do think this was an extreme case though and I’m not letting it worry me too much. Hopefully it will make its way to a courtroom and end with authors even less likely to do something like that.

Sorry about the heater going out, that stinks – I hate being cold, so I wouldn’t have done well. I probably wouldn’t have left the room for more than five minutes at a time lol. Its weird to think of heater being a problem – I’m in Texas and still have had 80 degree weather lately!

Im so jealous you get to meet KMM! I adore her fever series and would so drive an hour to meet her! Have a blast!
