Okay, so I loved the Raven Boys series, and Ronan was my FAVORITE character out of the whole series. So imagine my elation when I found out that he had his own series coming out!!!!! I was kinda worried going in that this wouldn’t amount to the very tall pedestal of hype that I had raised it on in my head, but IT DID. OH, it did.
RONAN MY FAVORITE PRICKLY SARCASTIC CINNAMON ROLL. I seriously love him so much!! Seeing more of him just made me love him that much more! Also, I just want to say, I’m not usually a fan of romance (and can’t usually connect to M/M romance because I can’t relate) but hooboyyy. I love Pynch so muuuuuch. (Also my boyfriend is an Adam so Adam = win automatically.) I NEED THEM TO BE TOGETHER. They’re so beautiful as a couple! I loved the scenes between them, they gave me all the feels! View Spoiler »
I’m not sure how I felt about the introduction of the new characters. At first, I honestly hated their chapters. I just wanted them to be over so I could get back to Ronan. Farooq-Lane was boring and I didn’t care for the vibe I got from Jordan/Hennessy. But, as the book progressed, I found myself getting attached to them, and enjoying their chapters more. Farooq-Lane earned my grudging respect (she’s kind of a mercenary, but has morals) and Jordan was easy to like. I even warmed to Hennessy, who at first seemed to be a cold, selfish bitch; but I realized later she actually cared about her girls and just wanted to protect them.
I really enjoyed reading more about Declan, though! I adored his interactions with Ronan, which typically consisted of just a lot of Ronan being sarcastic and Declan being in a constant state of exasperation with Ronan and I am 100% here for it! But the brotherly love they shared was clear. Besides the Pynch dynamic, the brothers Lynch held my fave dynamic!
Which brings me to my favorite part of this book, other than Ronan: The beautiful writing. The prose is lyrical and magical, and just reading it feels like a dream. It’s absolutely perfect for bringing the world of dreaming to life. It was so easy to get lost in! It was borderline magical realism, but because it’s a story about dreaming, it felt believable and not weird at all (like magical realism is, which is why I don’t like it). Maggie’s writing is so whimsical! It really drew me in. And because it’s about dreaming, it feels like anything is possible. You never knew what was going to happen next. It was positively magical from start to finish!

Ronan sounded furious, which told Declan little about what he was really feeling. Every emotion that wasn’t happiness in Ronan usually presented itself as anger.
