Rearranging my library

I’ve been unhappy with my library for a while – I love the idea of having the books in the closet because I have a special room JUST for books, but at the same time it wasn’t ideal. The room is long and narrow, making any kind of decent pictures of my collection impossible. Also, the way I had to arrange it wasn’t ideal either. I had one tall shelf on the other side of the room, separated from the others, for my signed books. At first, it was fine. But now my signed books are outgrowing the shelf, and I don’t want to separate them. Putting them all in the main room gives me much more space to work with!

It took me a while to work up the motivation to move everything, because let’s face it, I have a LOT of books. The thought of moving 700 books, along with 5 tall shelves and 3 smaller ones, makes me cringe. Even worse, I knew I would have to take my big ass desk apart to get it through the closet door. (I’m moving my office/workspace to the closet since I need less room for that and I don’t use it very often.) But, I did it! It took me 2 hours to move everything out of the main room and empty the shelves of books.

this is what 700 books looks like

Then, I spent another hour moving shelves around trying to figure out what layout I wanted. I entertained the idea of bisecting the room with shelves down the center, but it was too closed off! I’d rather have the room light and open. And really, I’m happy with the way it turned out!

It’s not that there wasn’t enough room, necessarily – for a closet, the space is enormous (5′ by 10′). But, like I said it’s long and narrow and impossible to take a decent picture of. Plus I couldn’t see everything at once. It wasn’t uniform, which is what I want!

(Um, don’t mind the bookmarks that fell on the floor. Didn’t see that until after I took the pic lol!)

I’m really happy with it. Now I can get natural light into my room to light up my displays! I can also take better pictures. Plus, it looks beautiful! I like this much, much better :) I’m still planning on doing a full bookshelf tour soon – the bad lighting and lack of space to move around were holding me back before – so stay tuned for that!

  1. Oh wow!!! I Love your shelves and basically library room! It’s spectacular!! I soooooooo need more room myself so I can buy more tall 5-6 shelf bookcases!! I don’t have that at the moment and some books are haphazardly shelved sideways, on top of the shelf in my closet stacked soooo high to the ceiling…that shelf is now officially maxed out! There just isn’t enough room for them all!

The easy solution should be to stop buying them, but ha! That’s never going to happen! LOL! I just need to find the right job where I can make enough to live on my own and then I will be buying all the bookcases and filling up a home really quickly!! LOL!

Hope you enjoy your new read and your new layout!!

    Here’s my STS

    Have a GREAT day!
