Books I got this week

forgive my fins signed

Bought:

I haven’t bought many books lately because obviously I haven’t had a job, but the money I did spend was all on new grooming tools (over $600 worth, they’re SO expensive O__O)

Blog news:

Clearly I’ve been slacking, guys. I’ve got 3 reviews that I need to write as well as a Books I Didn’t Finish post sitting in my drafts and I just haven’t had the motivation to finish them :( I have seriously sucked at keeping up with blogging lately. I barely ever post, and when I do it’s only reviews. I really miss doing discussion posts but I haven’t had an ideas for anything. Or time to come up with ideas. Or motivation…

I miss blogging. I miss the community. I feel like no one even reads my blog anymore sadly. I’ve become terrible about responding to comments so I feel like maybe it discourages people from coming back. I see your comments! I do! And I appreciate every single one of them. Life gets in the way >.<

What I’ve been up to this week:

Busy busy! In the last Heartbeat Weekly I told you guys I got fired. I worked at a factory temporarily (which was a very positive experience!), then had a working interview with a new grooming place that seemed promising. I am happy to announce that I now officially work there! I started this week, and I’ve already done 9 of my own dogs (which is way more than I expected, I figured it’d be a long time until I could build up clients). I’m cleaning up in tips, and with commission I should have a decent enough paycheck to pay my bills (which is what I was worried about and the only thing that matters right now). It’s wonderful, guys! I’ve been learning new things, as well as re-learning old things (the PROPER way to do them), and I did my first true breed cut almost completely by myself on Friday. (It was kinda scary, because the groomer had to leave on an emergency and I had to learn on the fly from nothing but a picture in a book! But I did it!)

I’m really happy with my new job! It’s a great opportunity to grow, so getting fired was actually a blessing in disguise. The environment is a better fit for me, and I like my boss much better because she’s not afraid to hand out constructive criticism, which will help me learn and grow. She’s been very patient with me – she gives me tips and pointers on ways to do things better and more efficiently, corrects me when I make mistakes, and guides me in the right direction; all without making me feel incompetent or inadequate. She also gives praise when I do a good job, which is something I need to hear and something that I didn’t get at my old job. I need constructive criticism, and welcome it, but I need a healthy mixture of positive and negative. Hearing only negative makes me feel like I’m not good enough.

I’m feeling very blessed that my life is finally on the right track!

#TBRTakedown

Since I’m behind on my challenges, I’ve decided to unofficially participate in #TBRTakedown 4.0 (hosted by Leaning Lights). I say unofficially, because I work Monday through Thursday and have an all-day grooming convention on Friday, so I’m not sure how much free time I’ll have. I’d love to hit every one of the challenge points for a total of 5 books, but that’s pretty far-fetched for me so I’ll just make my goal to read as much as I can!

Here’s the books on my list:

  1. TBR over a year – Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
  2. Sequel – City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
  3. First book in series – TBA
  4. Out of comfort zone – Attachments by Rainbow Rowell
  5. From recent haul – The Shadow Hour by Melissa Grey

So basically I want to get to Shadow Hour, Attachments, and Ender’s Game; because let’s be honest here, I probably won’t finish CoHF in a week, let alone read other books in the same week…

  1. *huggles Jessi* I <3 you! I hear you on the real life getting in the way thing with blogging *blows dust off her own blog*

Congrats on the new job, sweetie! It sounds like a fantastic opportunity for you!

  2. I read all your blog posts even if I don’t always comment. :)

Congratulations on the new job!! I’m so glad you’re happy there.

  3. I think we are all a little bad about not commenting at times. I have consciously found myself not commenting because I really don’t know what to say on some posts from various bloggers. At the same time, I totally understand how you feel because I have felt the same way about my blog. I have gone back and looked at my stats and I’ve noticed the more I am around and visible on my blog and others, the more views and comments I get. Sometimes life throws some really unpredictable and unwanted events our way and they’re only temporary because something better is coming. I’m so glad you love your new job and it is something you can excel at. I have a couple of reviews I need to write, but I just want to read, read, read! I hope you have a great week!

    • I’m the same way! If I don’t have anything meaningful to say, I just…don’t say anything. I would rather not say anything than say something generic like “great review” or “nice post” ya know? I hear you, life just gets in the way sometimes. I finally caught up on all my reviews, I was like six behind haha! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

    • Thank you Lisa! I like to keep track of why I don’t finish things, as well as give my followers a quick little reason. It does tend to make the load heavier! Hope you had a great weekend!

  4. Congrats on your new job. Sounds like it’s already going well for you and hope you have fun with it! Summer is a time for me to slow down a bit on my blog. We all need to get away and relax, focus on other things now and then:)

    My Sunday Post

  5. Eeep, such cute pictures! And well done on starting the takedown! I’m trying to finish a few series that are on my TBR, too… from yonks ago… so I’m getting there! It’s good to see others who are doing something similar – so inspiring!

    • Thank you! Bah, series. Oh how I suck at them. I’m even participating in my own Sequel Challenge and still haven’t really gotten anywhere. Oops!
