A few days ago, when I emailed the winner of my Avalon giveaway, I received the the nicest, most heart-warming emails I’ve ever gotten from a giveaway winner (which probably isn’t much contest, since they always say something along the lines of “thank you! Here’s my address”). Maybe it doesn’t seem like a big deal to some people, but it seriously blew me away and made my day! She included a personal note, just making small talk, in the first paragraph, and I’m going to share with you what she said in the final paragraph (I hope this is okay with her!)

“Thank you so much again for the chance to enter the giveaway, for the incredible win, and also for having such an excellent blog.  It’s certainly one of the best out there and I enjoy taking the time to check in on it daily to be sure I don’t miss a single thing (and loved it with it’s previous name as well but I kind of like this one because I can pronounce it much better and love the graphic at the top)!  Thank you for keeping the blog going!”

I just found that to be very sweet! Thank you Shelly, you rock! It just goes to show that just an extra minute of your time and a kind word can sometimes have a big impact on someone else.

Completely unrelated, I wanted to tell a funny story with a moral: why you shouldn’t covet ARCs. It’s no secret that I’ve been DYING to get my hands on The Winner’s Curse. I typically don’t obsess over ARCs, but this was the ONE book I wanted most. I requested it from the publisher months ago, and when pictures and tweets started to trickle in that practically everyone but me was getting it, I felt sad, but still hoped I would get a late copy (Please, publisher Gods, just send me this one book and I’ll never ask for another book again!). Thus, it never came. Then by a stroke of sheer luck, the awesome Meredith responded to a tweet about the ARC of Steadfast I received that I wanted to trade because I didn’t want it. She rattled off a list of books she had to exchange, but I wasn’t really interested. Then, she was like OH WAIT, I have an ARC of The Winner’s Curse! I thought she was kidding at first…thankfully she wasn’t! She let me borrow it before even reading it for herself. She’s pretty freaking awesome!
Literally the next day, I got an email from the publisher asking if I would like a copy for review. The next day. Then, not even a week later, I got the email from Netgalley with an offer to be one of the 100 lucky people to read the galley.   So now that I finally found a copy (after lusting after it for months), I get all kinds of chances to read it. Murphy’s Law, right? I suppose I should just learn to be patient!
Like I said, the moral of this story is to not covet ARCs. Don’t give in to the ARC envy >.<

Freezing my ass off? Yep, I know, I say that same thing every week. But it’s still true! The amount of snow we’ve gotten this year is just becoming absurd. It seems like it snows every other day, and the temperature hasn’t been above freezing in God knows how long. I’m so sick of winter!
Other than that, I’ve just been getting spoiled with days off. I still work my three 13-hour shifts a week, but my schedule changed. The way my days fell this pay period, I have had 6 of the last 8 days off. It’s awesome, but now I don’t want to go back!!

  1. Two things a) PUBLISHER ASKED YOU IF YOU WANTED TO REVIEW WOAH #neverhappens but that’s awesome ESPECIALLY FOR WINNER’S CURSE BECAUSE THAT BOOK SOUNDS AMAZING AND YOU HAVE TOT ELL ME HOW IT IS WHEN YOU’RE DONE BECAUSE I TORTURED MYSELF BY READING THE SAMPLER. Sigh. SIGH. SIGHHHH.

    b) that has to be the best thank you note ever. <3 <3 <3

    • RIGHT?! I’ve only had that happen once before, with an eARC and it was because I requested a paper ARC and they didn’t make any. I’m almost done!! It’s got a really historical feel, so I should hate it on principal, but I’m finding that I’m actually very invested in it! I am LOVING the romance, which is quite strange for me O_O

  2. Ugh so jealous of all those chances you got to read The Winner’s Curse! I’m dying to read that book and I requested it a while ago but never did end up getting it which is okay but I’ll just buy it when it comes out because that cover is goooorgeeeeoouuuuuss! I hope you love it, and awww that letter is adorable and so sweet. I just don’t know what I’d do without super sweet people like that who invest extra time into things. So cool that you’ve gotten so many days off, though, and good luck when you go back!

  3. Aw! I love that email from your giveaway winner. I love doing giveaways but a lot of times it is rough when you don’t even get a thank you just an address. THE WINNER’S CURSE. I can’t wait to hear what you think of it. I adored every word. enjoy :-)

    • It is rough! I mean, I don’t expect a response like the one above, but a ‘thank you so much’ is better than nothing at all! I hate when they don’t even seem excited about it, though, because the excitement is why I do it in the first place!
It has a historical feel to it, and I hate anything historical, but I’m more invested in it than I thought I’d be! I am absolutely LOVING the romance!!

  4. Stung sounds very good and lucky you for being able to read The winner’s curse now. I’ve heard so many good things about it :D Thanks for including me in your favorite posts <3 What a sweet email! Must feel really good to see you're giving the book to someone who really appreciate it.

  5. Such a sweet thank you note! And lol, three offers of a much coveted ARC? Wow~ I actually don’t know much about The Winner’s Curse other than that it has a very pretty cover, but I hope you’ll enjoy it :)

  6. Wow that’s such a sweet note from the winner! Truth be told: I didn’t really know how to pronounce your old name either O_O You’re very lucky to receive a copy of The Winner’s Curse! I don’t think there’s an AUS pub for it yet, might need to scout around.

    Happy reading, Jessi! <33

  7. YOU ARE SO WELCOME JESSINATOR!!! I have fun surprising my peeps. :D Hope it looks stunning on your shelves next to The Winners Curse. That book is so much fun!! I need to finish it once I get caught up with my other advance books but SO much love for the book and cover!

That is such a lovely thank you note! Those are the things that make this community so amazing.
    All the love,
    Inky

  8. How funny about The Winner’s Curse. :P I’m a bit pissed because I saw that NetGalley “Read Now” email 15 minutes after it got sent, which is normally enough time to qualify for the “first 100” thing.. but apparently some people got the email HOURS before others (like 2-3 hours before I got mine) so obviously they snagged the 100 first.. :(

I’m not usually one to mope over not getting an ARC like that, but the fact that the emails were scattered makes it seem almost cruel to send me an email at all >_<
