I realized recently that it’s been a LONG time since I’ve listened to an audiobook. And it makes me sad! I love audiobooks, for two reasons:
- They allow you to read in situations where you may not otherwise be able to read; i.e. driving, or doing something with your hands (I listen while I craft sometimes!)
- When the narrators are really good, it adds even more to the story! Actually, there’s been a few times where I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed the book as much because the narrators did such a great job.
My favorite audiobooks
All of these have exceptional narrators! I was absolutely blown away by every last one of these audiobooks. And honestly, with the exception of The Darkest Minds, I’m pretty sure I would have enjoyed them all much less had I read them instead of listened. I listened to the entire Dust Lands series on audio because I can’t handle the prose in the book, but it works with the narrator!
I really liked the Legend audiobook as well, but it doesn’t quite make it to my favorites. You can see all of my audiobook reviews HERE.
What audiobooks do YOU recommend?
I’ve been looking for another great audiobook lately, but can’t seem to settle on anything. Any suggestions?
I LOVE audiobooks! The Hubs and I have an audible account and get two credits a month so we can each have one. Most of my favorite audiobooks have been adult books, but I love HP in audio. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series is also fantastic in audio. I listened to the entire Legend series and enjoyed it as well. Throne of Glass has been good in audio as well.
The Martian isn’t a book I would have picked up on my own, but after reading a couple of reviews a couple years ago, we tried it in audio and it was FANTASTIC! Some of my other faves have been urban fantasy series. My husband loves the Harry Dresden series, read by James Marsden. While not my favorite series, I don’t think I would have read past book one if not on audio. Mercy Thompson, The Others, White Trash Zombie, Downside Ghosts, and the Hollows are all just as good, if not better in audio thanks to the narrators.
I had Audible for a while but had to cut costs so sadly that was the first to go. I usually get them from the library, rip them to my computer, and upload to my phone haha. YES Daughter of Smoke and Bone! I actually forgot about that one because I read it originally, and started to listen to it months ago and never actually finished the audio. Legend actually makes it into my “honorable mention” category, because that’s another one I really enjoyed on audio!
Ohh thanks for that list, I’ll have to check all of those out for sure! Mercy Thompson has been on my TBR for a long time. Also I didn’t know James Marsden narrated an audiobook, that’s pretty interesting o_O
I’m really excited to see Blood Red Road on your list because that has been in my audio TBR for a while now… Totally buying soon LOL. Most of my favorite audiobook experiences have been adult fantasy/sci-fi. I agree with Stephanie – the Dresden files are awesome (but I think the narrator is James Marsters). And I haven’t done Mercy Thompson in audiobook, but OMG they are my all-time favorite urban fantasies. I highly recommend them :-) and just for the record, my favorite audiobooks are The Way of Kings by Sanderson, The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, and, of course, Harry Potter. :-)
Must all books I read are audio books!!! Best thing ever! I get a majority of mine from my library via overdrive, transfer them to my mp3 player (easier than using my phone plus a pause button I can quickly press when someone thinks they need to talk to me lol)
I agree with all the recommendations mentioned!
Katherine Kellgren is one of my all-time favorite narrators! (Bloody Jack series!) as well as Lorelei King (Charley Davidson series) and so many others.
Ready Player One is an awesome book in audio, Mistborn series, Six of Crows, Lilac Girls, Shadowshaper, Illuminae, The Lunar Chronicles… I could go on and on!!! =)
Basically I don’t like audiobooks so much. It’s exhausting to hear them bc the narrators are to slow for me :D But then there are some books i love to hear. Especially harry potter. The German Narrator (I’m German ;D) is so funny and makes it so good. Its like in must have this audiobooks for germans :D
Do you buy your audio books or “borrow” it?
Greetings <3
