This week’s topic: Where I live

Topic suggested by Chelsea @ Books for Thought

For this topic, you don’t have to discuss your house or even your town. You don’t have to go into detail if you don’t want to! I won’t give the name of my town, but I have no problem sharing my house :)

The State

I live in Ohio. Crappy, lame Ohio. Where we go through all four seasons in the span of 48 hours. YAY. (not) Winters are long and cold. (I’m sure there’s worse, but I’m a sissy when it comes to cold.) One day it will be 60 degrees, the next it will be 30. Fun, right? I grew up in Ohio, so it’s mine, you know? But I kind of hate it. Someday I want to move somewhere where it never snows!

The City

My neighborhood is a small, quiet city, and we don’t have any neighbors on our side so we’re not squished right next to another house. The only bad thing about the location is that there’s a couple of small businesses right behind us and we don’t have a privacy fence. I love the location, though – we have everything we need convenience-wise, so I hardly ever have to drive more than a mile to get to anything. There’s just about every kind of fast food – McD’s, Taco Bell, Burger King, Wendy’s, Arby’s, Pizza Hut, Subway, Hot Head; a Rite Aid and Dollar General; and the Kroger is only a half mile up the interstate. It’s awesome! I can fill my gas tank once a paycheck now (bi-weekly) :D

The House

house

We just moved in at the end of May! It has 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths – 2,280 square feet total. It’s a manufactured (aka prefab/modular) home, which is a fancy way for saying it was built off-site and moved to its final resting place. It was also a foreclosure, so we got it for ridiculously cheap! It has a few cosmetic issues, and we had a LOT of repairs to make before we could move in, but it’s awesome. It’s so roomy! And the best part is the storage! There’s a big ass pantry, tons of closet space (seriously, there’s his & hers closets in the master bathroom). My library? It’s a 10×5 closet. I had room for 8 shelves…IN MY CLOSET. That was the selling part for us! There’s a lot that we still want to do with it, but I love it! (There’s lots of pictures of it on Instagram and I’ll be posting a bookshelf tour soon!)

  1. I live in Ohio too! I live near Delaware, but more rural. I have 7 acres, because I have horses. We looked at some of those modular homes and even looked at building a new one. We ended buying a home back before the market collapsed like 10 or 12 years ago.

  2. I know what you mean about the weather. We have similar weather in Central New York where I live. I actually live in Syracuse, the metropolitan area that gets the most snow. I actually love where I live, I love that we get all four seasons, even though our winters are soooooo long, and sometimes it feels like we doesn’t have any Spring (which is my favorite season), but I hate driving to work when the weather is bad. I always have to go to work regardless of the weather.

Anyway, I like your house, and that’s great that you have so much space!

  3. Wooooo Ohioans unite! I live smack dab in Columbus. I feel like every other part of Ohio is too country for me D: Haha. Your house is cute, though! That is a LOT of room! And that is awesome your library is in your closet! XD

  4. I liked this one and I liked reading about where everyone lives. Being a writer, it’s always nice to know that if I needed info about a certain city, I know who to contact!

  5. Your house looks so pretty in the snow! Ohio would probably suit me well because I’m more prepared for the cold than I am for the summer, and we’re never guaranteed snow where I live, so whenever it arrived everyone just kind of panics for a bit and then deals with it until it goes away.

  6. You know, I always complain about the harsh winters we experience in the midwest, but deep down I really like having all 4 seasons. :)

I hope you’re reading for our 2015 polar vortexes! BRRR

  7. SNOOOOOOW *hugs screen* I have only seen snow fall once and it was amazing, so I shall now steal all your snow. I totally get what you mean by all 4 seasons in 48 hours. That is exactly Melbourne too. Yesterday was so hot, and now today, it’s chilly ugh.

  8. I’m so jealous of your library! I’m going to creep on your instagram for more bookish pictures. I want a house so bad. I’ve lived out in apartments with my boyfriend for two years now, since moving out of college. I hate the noises of other people surrounding me all the time so we REALLY need to work on a house. I’m from Connecticut, so I’m familiar with the seasons/snow/cold/general yuckiness! I like this meme, I may have to participate :)
