Meet Octavia!

How long have you been blogging? What made you want to start a book blog?

I started blogging about 6 months ago, because no one in my day to day life would listen to me rant about whatever book I just finished, and they never got excited about new releases. Horrible right?!

What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?

I wish I had something super cool to put here but, if a book isn’t in my hand I’m probably entertaining my 4 year old or cleaning. There is always cleaning to be done in my house lol.

What is your favorite part about blogging? Least favorite?

Easy question! My favorite part is all my new friends. I didn’t really think of the possibility of making real friends when I started blogging, but most book bloggers want to actually converse with other book bloggers/lovers, and that’s awesome.

My least favorite is the drama. I never would have guessed that there could be drama within a book blogging community but I guess there can be drama anywhere.

Where did you come up with the name for your blog?

Don’t laugh, but Read. Sleep. Repeat. is the product of being teased. My family isn’t exactly the book toting type and my mom always teased my habits of reading a book going to bed and then waking up to read another book, and thus Read. Sleep. Repeat. was formed.

Do you have any specific book bloggers that inspire you?

Ah I’m going to get all fangirly here but these ladies have played a huge part in my blogging:
  • Christine at Oh Chrys! – her reviews are ridiculously well written, and she is amazing!
  • Stephanie at Read Rinse Repeat – I think her blog title says it all; great minds think alike.
  • Ariana at Reading After Midnight – she is the reason I even decided to blog, she says that her blog is her happy space and that’s what I want from Read. Sleep. Repeat.
There are others who inspired me, and even helped me but these three are the icing on that cake.

What do you look for in a blog when following? What are your pet peeves?

The main thing I want from a blog I follow is for them to be honest, and you can usually tell someone’s sincerity via their reviews. One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to blog following is people who think that since they followed your blog you automatically have to follow theirs. Obviously they are insane and I treat them as such.

[Jessi] Baha OBVIOUSLY. ;D This drives me crazy too! When someone says ‘I followed you please follow back’ to me that just means they’re only following me because they want to gain a new follower, not because they actually care about my content. So I just ignore it!

What’s your favorite book(s)?

This answer changes every other day, but today my top 5 favorite books are:
Sanctum by Sarah Fine
The Space Between by Brenna Yovanoff
Ashfall by Mike Mullin
Angelfall by Susan Ee
Written in Red by Anne Bishop

Favorite author?

As of today it’s a tie between A.G. Howard, Shannon Messenger and Brenna Yovanoff. They all just have such a vivid way of telling a story, I just love them all.

What is the biggest turn off for you when you’re reading a book?

My biggest turnoff, and the main reason for most of my DNF is a “woe is me” heroine. I can’t handle a pity party for minor characters so I definitely won’t put up with them for the MC.

What first draws you to a book to make you want to read it?

I would love to say that either a good friend or other reviews draw me to a book but that would be a lie. I’m a cover lover plain and simple. If it has a pretty cover, I’m adding it to my TBR list without thinking twice.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Opinionated. Protective. Forgetful.

Name a random fact about yourself.

When I was 15 I was fortunate enough to play at Play House Square in Cleveland, OH, and it was EPIC!

Do you have a job? If so, what do you do?

I just left my fantabulous job as a leasing consultant, but now I have the hectic but amazing job of being a stay at home mom.

What did you want to be when you were little? Has that changed?

When I was younger I dreamed of being a doctor. Sadly I have an extreme fear of needles so that never happened. Now when I grow up I want to work in publishing.

Randomness

 Cats or dogs?
Dogs, but only because when I’m around cats my throat closes up and I break out in hives. If it weren’t for that little issue I’d so pick cats.

 Favorite animal?
Well I’m allergic to most, so I’m going to go with one I will never have to pet. An elephant! Or maybe a giraffe! Hmm…pass?

 White, dark, or milk chocolate?
Milk chocolate hands down! Side Story Alert: When I was little, Hersey came out with a “Cookies and Cream” candy bar, and I took my life savings (about 3 bucks) to my local store and bought a whole box of those darn candy bars. I then commenced to eating the entire box in one sitting as soon as I made it home. Haven’t touched white chocolate since.

 Coke or Pepsi?
Even though I live in the great state of Georgia, I will always pick Pepsi. It’s like 100x better!

 Favorite TV show?
I don’t get to watch a lot of tv but when I do I’m obsessed with The Simpsons! That whole family is just amazeballs.

 Movie?
My all time favorite movie is Grease (the original). I just love Rizzo!

 Color?
Yellow! It’s such a cheery color.

Thanks for being here today, Octavia! It was great getting to know you! :)

  1. Huzzah! It was great getting to know a little bit more about you Octavia! Thanks for the feature, Jessi – oh, and I love your sig graphic!

  2. Yay. It is so amazing to see Octavia featured here! Always great to learn more about a friend, and get a shout-out (lol).

Just some feedback on her answers:
    1. How the hell do you manage a kid and a blog? I can hardly take care of my two goldfish Mike and Ike! Sometimes my family and boyfriend get so annoyed by all the attention I invest in my blog.

    2. Oh yah. That “follow me back please” comment is annoying. What I have noticed though, is that it is normally the really new bloggers who do that. They do not really know how to promote their blog as yet, so they just do that. I have yet to see a vet blogger do that! Though I do find it annoying, I do visit the blog to check it out, but then I forget about it later most of the time. I know, horrible person here.

    3. Hehe. I would hope AG Howard made it up there considering your review on Splintered. I haven’t read any Howard books yet, but when I can, I will. When I can…

    4. You dreamed of being a doctor? I dreamed of being a vet! Even took Sciences in high school . I always loved reading, but it took me a while to consider studying Literature. Glad I made the choice!

    5. I love cats. Even though my old one made me sneeze a lot, and I refused to get diagnosed for allergies, I could not resist owning one. Then he ran away. A couple houses down. Sucks, right? He does not even listen to me when I call him on the street. Thug life, I guess.

This was so cool to read! Yay for Octavia!

  3. Fantastic interview Octavia and Jessi! I actually really love your blog name and family who don’t enjoy reading just don’t get it! (my mom used to feel the same way and then I made her pick up a few of my YA books and she actually likes them lol). Also, I agree with the whiny MC and the “follow me back” comments. The best way is to just consistently comment on someone’s blog and that’s the best way to slowly gain their readership >.<

I love your blog button! And happy six month blogoversary, no matter how late/early I may be :)
