For fans of The Princess Bride comes the comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey.

Lady Jane Grey, sixteen, is about to be married to a total stranger—and caught up in an insidious plot to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But that’s the least of Jane’s problems. She’s about to become Queen of England. Like that could go wrong.

My thoughts

I’m not one for Historical, or for romance for that matter, but this was such a cute and fun story! Even though it’s outside of my genre comfort zone, I knew when I saw that these three ladies were writing a book together that I had to read it.

This book had a definite Princess Bride feel to it. I think if you enjoyed that movie, you will enjoy this as well! The humor had me laughing out loud many times. Even though I didn’t care about the Historical aspect, it was so funny that I never lost interest!

I absolutely loved the magic in this book. The concept of Edians (pronounce ethians, the d is a lowercase delta but the symbol doesn’t work on here -___-) was sooo awesome! The magic was definitely the selling point for me, closely followed by the humor. View Spoiler »

I didn’t necessarily get all swoony over the romance, but I did think that it was nicely done. It develops slowly so it feels realistic and they had time to get to know each other. I kind of loved that neither of them was what the other was expecting!

This book was so much fun to read! I totally wish I was an Edian!

Side note: FRYING PAN REFERENCE FTW. Also it’s the cutest thing ever that their pets were in the acknowledgements! (KIPPY <3)

Favorite quotes

There was nothing she relished more than the weight of a hefty tome in her hands, each beautiful volume of knowledge as rare and wonderful and fascinating as the last. She delighted in the smell of the ink, the rough feel of the paper between her fingers, the rustle of sweet pages, the shapes of the letters before her eyes. And most of all, she loved the way that books could transport her from her otherwise mundane and stifling life and offer the experiences of a hundred other lives. Through books she could see the world.

My sweet, have you ever had a difficult time deciding between man or beast? Well, now you don’t have to!

“Are you sure your true Edian form isn’t a jackass?”
