Upcoming

These are the ones that have a cast and release date! Titles are linked to IMDb.

Optioned/In development

Film rights have been bought! (This doesn’t necessarily mean the movie will make it to the big screen.) All titles with an IMDb page are linked.

TV shows optioned/in development

I’d like to keep this list as updated as possible, so if you know of any that aren’t on here or have extra info on ones that are, please let me know!

Which ones are you most excited for? I’m especially thrilled about The Immortal Rules & Talon (Julie Kagawa, duhhh), Darkest Minds, Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Blood Red Road, and Before I Fall; but I’m also excited for An Ember in the Ashes, Shatter Me, and Vicious!

  1. I can’t wait to see books like Angelfall, The night Circus, Vicious and The Raven Boys on the big screen! You’ve compiled a really great list, I’ll definitely look back on it. And Heist Society! That would be amazing.

  2. Excited for a lot of these! You should add Ready Player One too! It’s also in development, Steven Spielberg is set to direct! :-)

Though it’s always good to keep in mind that even though a book is optioned, that doesn’t mean a movie will come for sure. :P

    • I hadn’t heard of that one for some reason…but all my friends rated it 4 and 5 stars, and it sounds epic! I requested it immediately from the library, and added it to this list. I’m sure the movie will be awesome too with Spielberg directing :D

  3. I had no idea Fallen was getting a movie! I quite enjoyed the book when it came out. Great list – I hope some of those optioned movies actually get made :)

  4. Wow! I didn’t realize that so many books have been optioned for movies! I’d really love to see Heist Society in live action. Although, I think I’d prefer it as a TV show with each book as a different season. I’d love to see a Gallagher Girls TV show, too. And The Raven Boys.

I think Legend by Marie Lu has also been optioned.

    • Oh a Gallagher Girls TV show would be amazing! I don’t think a movie would do it justice and there is just so much you could do with it as a TV show!

For me Clockwork Angel, Red Queen and anything by Julie Kagawa would make fantastic movies!

Wicked Lovely as a TV show would be fantastic! And House of Night would be a great guilty pleasure TV show–so much drama!

  5. OMG I forgot about Vicious ! How could I ? Right now, I want to see what they’ll do with the shadowhunters tv show.
And that list you made, it kind of force me to buy the books so I can read them before the movie release … (what ? No, I’m not trying to find an excuse to buy more books, not at all !)

  6. I’m really excited for Before I Fall because I adored that book when I read it. I think it would transition well because of the whole contemporary yet not really thing it has going on.

I’m also excited but skeptical of The Selection. Obviously, I’m excited because the books have been addictive, but I just don’t really them as movies. I think a TV show on either The CW or ABC Family would be better for them.

Oh! And I was subbing the other day, and found out that Wonder by Palacio is in development. I am beyond thrilled for that one because I think it gives middle grade kids and families something to look forward to. I know I’ll be seeing that one. :)

  7. There’s a movie for Fallen? IN JULY? I didn’t even hear of any buzz for that at all.

And so many great books have been optioned for film! I just hope that they’re treated properly. And if they’re not so good, well, hopefully they get The 100 treatment. :D

  8. Katie

Wasn’t THE YOUNG ELITES by Marie Lu also optioned? I remember her announcing that on Twitter. :)

  9. The Night Circus would be such a great movie!! You’ve got my hopes up :) I haven’t read a WHOLE lot of these, but many are on my to-read list. It sounds like a lot of these would make great movies. But I’m thinking The Selection would be better as just one movie, rather than a trilogy. We’ll see :)

  10. Alicia

There are so many good books on the Optioned list, but in my heart, I know they will fuck up at least half of them. *sniff* :'(

  11. I’m excited for the Shadowhunters show, because I feel like it would make a good show if they do it right! And Vicious is going to be a GREAT movie if they don’t completely fuck it up for no reason, because the writing is so cinematic already. I love The Darkest Minds, but I’m undecided on how it would be as a movie. I guess it really depends on the people making it! And I didn’t know about Uglies, I’ll have to keep an eye out for that one!
