What my name means

What Google says:

In Hebrew the meaning of the name Jessica is: Rich. God beholds. The daughter of Shylock in Shakespeare’s play ‘The Merchant of Venice’.

Rich? If only, ha…

How I got my name

I was named after my great grandmother, Jessica Joy Gerretson. And no, my middle name is not Joy. Thank goodness haha!

So yeah. NOW YOU KNOW.

Next week’s topic: Halloween!

Your turn! Make your own post telling everyone about your name and link up :)

  1. ooh interesting post! I just looked up my name and this is what google says:
Melanie is a feminine given name derived from the Greek μελανία (melania), “blackness” and that from μέλας (melas), meaning “dark”.

So yes, I am very dark and mysterious *waggles eyebrows*

    Great post, Jessi! <33

  2. I think it’s really sweet that you’re named after your great-grandmother. I’m not named after anyone, which is okay. My name’s Quinn, and I like how unique it is, and I like that it’s Irish, but I wish it were a bet more feminine.

  3. Maybe “rich” is a prediction of the future? ;)

I looked at mine, and I guess if I trace back the English use of the name Kayla several jumps it’s actually a form of Katherine, which is taken from a Greek word that can be traced back to Hecate. Which is pretty badass, since she’s one of my favorite Greek gods :D Kayla can also be traced back in the Yiddish and Hebrew languages, translating to “crown of laurel” in the end. Also awesome!

  4. My name means “pure” since it’s derived out of Katherine. I think I was named after my aunt’s doll. I KNOW, RIGHT?? I kind of just stared at my parents when they told me that. That was the depth of their imaginations at the time?! lol But then…I’m child number 5 so maybe they were just running low. Heheh!
Although the “pure” thing is actually hilarious, because I’m the most evilly sarcastic person I know. x)

  5. I’ve always known the meaning of my name…which is (sigh, boring), Fossilized Tree Resin Or Color Orange/Red. The origin of the name Amber is English.

I got my name because my mom always had other girls in her class named Amber, she liked the name and decided she would name me that. I like my name, I just wish there was an actual meaning and it wasn’t an object. Lol.
