I’ve been super lucky lately to have a bunch of things coming close to me! Last Saturday there was a signing for Doon at my local Books & Co, and Thursday CJ Redwine and Rae Carson came to Columbus (about an hour away)! I’ve been waiting for the Carson/Redwine signing for over a month! In fact, I had some trouble figuring out which one to go to, because there was another Friday in Indianapolis (an hour away too) and one yesterday in Illinois (5 hours away, but I welcome the occasional road trip!). Eventually I just decided to go to the closest one to save gas and time.
The discussion panel at the Redwine/Carson signing was by far the best one I’ve listened to, because they didn’t just talk about generic things (how they started writing, where their inspiration came from, etc.) but got into the deeper stuff. We got to talking about censorship in books and they both wholeheartedly agreed against it. Mainly violence in YA. Because the world is a violent place and it makes the reader wonder what they would do in the MC’s place, and they have to learn somehow. It was a very cool discussion (I should have recorded the damn thing)! Then I asked if they think there should be a line drawn – particularly with sex in YA. They said it depends on the imprint though. We actually got engaged in a pretty deep and passionate discussion about these things!

I love Rae Carson’s “The Girl of Fire and Thorns” lol, it’s been over a year and I still find myself mourning over H. The ending in “The Crown of Embers” was just heartbreaking and cruel. Just finished “The Bitter Kingdom” and thought it was the perfect ending to be series. Lucky you that you’ve met her. She’s one of the authors that I would love to meet, but at last don’t think she’ll ever be in Los Angeles.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  2. Jessica@a GREAT read

Oooh very nice!! I am hoping next Sunday to go to my first local signing this year! So far no author has tread St. Louis’s grounds, but next Sunday 4 just might! I keep saying might and all that because they have yet to list a library of where the signing will be! Only 5 cities will be visited and only 1 of them doesn’t have a location listed!

    Great haul! Happy Reading!

  3. Ahh I’m glad you had so much fun at the signing!! I’m glad that the authors started talking about censorship and other really important topics, that would have definitely been such a great conversation to listen in on :) You got some AMAZING books, too!

    Fantastic haul, Jessi! <33

  4. Wow! No one comes out by me, not even Palm Springs which is an hour and half drive for me. (I live in the middle of the desert on top of a mountain, no bueno). The closest they come is Las Vegas, Los Angeles or San Diego which is not close at all. Pretty cool that you got to go to some book signings this summer.
    p.s. Love your shirt ;) they’re a great band.

  5. You are so lucky! I can’t believe how many signings you get to go to! I seriously need to look into where authors come around here, if they even do. Damn living in the middle of nowhere!

  6. Ohio is NOT lame Jessi. Lessee, how much provided you just give?:) I’m so glad you got to go to those! It sounds like a blast. Doon looks fantastic, and so does the GOFAT trio. Haha and we of course know how wonderful DEFIANCE is. :) C.J. & Rae sound way awesome-sauce!!! Enjoy all the pretties! Can’t wait to read your reviews.

sounds like a great event! Thanks so much for sharing! I haven’t had any author signings anywhere near me, so I’m jealous :)

  8. Awesome! I love book signing so I am jealous (even though I just went to Kelley Armstrong).

I hope you enjoy Skulk. I’m reading it now and I like it so far, but the parents are driving me crazy!

  9. Sara G

Author signings are so much fun. You sound like you had a blast at yours and the panal discussion sounds so interesting. Thanks so much for posting pictures and telling about your time there.

  10. Gretchen

Book signings are a blast!! Yours sounds like it was fun. Thanks for the pics and sharing your panel discussion. Hopefully we’ll meet at a book signing in the future.

  11. You are sooooo lucky. The only book signing I *almost* went to was Meg Cabot’s. However, I live in an area no one really wants to go. Darn. But anywho, that haul is fantastic! And the bookmarks are gorgeous!

  12. Natalie

That is awesome! You are so lucky to have gone to a book signing. I’ve been to..*counts fingers…..NONE :( Anyways, thanks for the giveaway :D
