VENGEANCE WILL BE HERS

Allison Sekemoto once struggled with the question: human or monster?

With the death of her love, Zeke, she has her answer.

MONSTER

Allie will embrace her cold vampire side to hunt down and end Sarren, the psychopathic vampire who murdered Zeke. But the trail is bloody and long, and Sarren has left many surprises for Allie and her companions—her creator, Kanin, and her blood brother, Jackal. The trail is leading straight to the one place they must protect at any cost—the last vampire-free zone on Earth, Eden. And Sarren has one final, brutal shock in store for Allie.

In a ruined world where no life is sacred and former allies can turn on you in one heartbeat, Allie will face her darkest days. And if she succeeds, triumph is short-lived in the face of surviving forever alone.

My thoughts

I will try my best not to include spoilers outside of spoiler tags, but it is very difficult to talk about without spoiling anything, so beware!

I say this in every review of a Julie Kagawa book: Julie cannot write a bad book. It’s just not possible. There hasn’t been a single book she’s written that I didn’t love, and this one was no exception!!

I was sad to see this trilogy end, but I loved the way everything was wrapped up neatly. There were no loose ends and it was a very satisfying (albeit bittersweet) ending! (Although I would LOVE to get a spin off book of Jackal!!! Please, Julie?! *puppy face*) I must say though, it made me cry :( View Spoiler »

Allie and Zeke’s relationship was heartbreaking. View Spoiler » With Zeke struggling to come to terms with everything that had happened, it was very hard to watch their relationship suffer. I hated how withdrawn he became, even though I understood. I also really felt for Allie and her internal struggle against becoming a monster.

“No one gets to decide what kind of monster I am but me.”

And, last but not least: JACKAL. OMG I LOVE HIM. I loved him already in the second book even though he was kind of an asshat; and I said in my review of The Eternity Cure that I wanted to see more of him. My wish was granted! He still had his snide remarks and asshattery going for him, but we get to see a softer side (as soft as Jackal can get, anyway). I loved it!! Even though he tried to deny it, you could tell that deep down he really did care for his vampire family, no matter how messed up they were. I love that he and Allie finally learned to work together! Plus, he was the comic relief of course – he had me cracking up at his snark!

Oh, and did I mention it’s gory? Bonus points! I loved the ominous and gritty feel of this book (the whole series, really) and all the detailed bloody fight scenes! All in all, I loved this trilogy from start to finish, and I cannot WAIT to see what Julie has in store for us in Talon!

Favorite Quote

“Time never mattered. Vampire or human, if we had forever or just a few years, I’d always choose to spend it with you.”

  1. Yay Julie Kagawa is definitely such a great writer! I’ve seen a few mixed reviews but I’m so excited for this one to come out because not only is it my favorite cover in the series but Julie always manages to get her characters and plot perfectly right. :) Glad you loved this one, Jessi! <33

  2. I also knew what was going to happen to Zeke and the spoiler around Kanin. I KNOW RIGHT? Haha, I loved Jackal, I love the gory detailed scenes that made my heart pump faster. Julie Kagawa is a master :)
