Goals and Resolutions for 2016

Bookish goals and resolutions

Read 100 books.

This was my goal for 2015, but I didn’t quite make it. I was close though – 96 books! I’m hoping this year I can break into triple digits.

Participate in at least two readathons.

This shouldn’t be too hard – Bout of Books and Beat the Heat!

Catch up on review copies.

For a while there, I was crazy swamped with review copies. I’ve been doing great lately, though! My NetGalley ratio is currently 96%. I have 3 books left to review, and 2 of them I’ve already reviewed, I’m just waiting for the review to post so I can add my link! I’m a lot farther behind on Edelweiss. I’ve got 7 left to review, and 3 of them are older books that I no longer have any interest in so I’m going to have to force my way through them >.< I’ve got a few physical copies, too.

My goal this year is to wipe out ALL of my backlist review copies, and only request books I really want to read. That way, when I get those books, I can read them right away! I won’t have any old book obligations (because let’s face it, that’s what they feel like after a while) bogging me down.

Blogging goals and resolutions

Visit more blogs.

I absolutely SUCKED at making my rounds on other blogs this year. I feel horrible that I never return comments, and that’s something I want to change in 2016.

Make new blogging friends & keep up with old ones.

I made SO many wonderful friends in my first couple of years of blogging, and I feel like in the past year or two I’ve somehow lost touch with that. I’m so far removed from the blogging world anymore that I feel like no one remembers me or knows who I am anymore. It makes me really sad :(

I miss crazy Twitter conversations and inside jokes and brainstorming awesome blog features together. I want that back!

Be more active.

I definitely want to participate more in the blogging world this year. I want to know what’s going on and also have people know who I am. I want way more interaction and friendship!

Have better content.

Let’s face it, the past few months the only thing I’ve been posting is reviews. How boring is that? I really miss doing discussions and features. I feel like my I’ve lost my personality in my blog. I want to post more things about me, and more fun stuff this year! Also I want to be better about doing my weekly wrap ups…I was only posting them like once every other month this year >.>

Host a read along.

This sounds kind of random, but I’ve never done one before and it seems like it’d be fun! Maybe Melissa and I can do one for the Prequel & Sequel Challenge :)

Personal goals and resolutions

Keep up with fitness.

Okay, so this has been a resolution for years. (And is probably everyone’s resolution, haha.) But I’ve been doing great the past 6 months or so, and I want to keep up with it! I lost nearly 30 pounds from March to November, and it felt amazing. I want that feeling back! I knocked my daily calorie limit down to 1500 calories and saw awesome results. I want to maintain that, but I also want to go the the gym more often. I want to keep seeing results! My goal is to be down to 140!

Work toward paying off my debt.

When I get my tax return I’ll be using it to pay off the rest of the loan that I got screwed with (NEVER take out a loan in your name to help anyone else, EVER…I don’t care who they are or what they mean to you, DON’T. DO. IT.), and that will go a long way toward helping me financially. I will no longer be struggling because that frees up $100 a month! I want to either save that extra money, or put it toward my two credit cards. I really want to get at least one of them (the higher APR) paid off by the end of 2016. I’m so sick of being in debt, it’s constantly in the back of my mind causing me stress.

Start working on the house.

There’s SO much I want to do with my house, and it’s really discouraging because I’ve been in it for a year and a half and I’ve only remodeled my library. I’m DYING to paint, get wood floors, some new carpet, and to put tile down in the den because having carpet with 5 cats sucks.

My main goal for 2016 is to move my library into the back room. There’s more space, and I want a room SOLELY for books. Right now my library shares space with my office, and I feel like there’s not enough wall space to do what I really want with it. I want to put down flooring and paint the walls first so it looks nice, and I’d also love to get some nice white shelves from Ikea. I want one wall of nothing but shelves, and then the other main wall can be nothing but bookish posters! I’m so excited to see this plan come to fruition, I really hope that I can make that happen this year.

If I can get my financial situation squared away, I’d really like to start working toward getting a privacy fence. A fence is something that I’ve really been wanting to do, but it’s SO expensive. It’s really rough owning a dog with no fence. She’s a border collie mix so she has lots of energy and no way to burn it off. I would love to be able to just let her run outside all the time when it’s nice out!

Take a vacation. A real vacation.

I’m not talking about 4 days. I want a full week, ideally two. On the beach.

What are your 2016 resolutions?

  1. I need to catch up with the review copies and do some blog hopping as well. Although I think I’m doing some more commenting on other blogs than I used to. My other goals include- I need to resist ARCs more and be more creative, also maybe focus on some actual writing as well and I definitely intend to participate in NaNoWriMo this year!

I hope you are able to complete all your goals and resolutions this year! :-)

  2. You’ve listed so many attainable goals here :) I want to aim at cleaning out my review copies for NetGalley this year and focus on my fitness goals; in fact, my fitness journey is sort of a priority this year. Wishing you the best of luck in the year ahead!

  3. I love your goals and resolutions. I think they match with a lot of mine. I got kind of out of reading and blogging last year, but this year I want to get more involved in the book blogging world again!

I hope you have an awesome year!

  4. You were so close, good luck with reaching 100 books this year!
I also want to stay on top of my review copies. I don’t want to get swamped.
Yes, keep up with us <3
Take that vacation. Enjoy your free time. Be good for yourself, girl :)!

  5. Fantastic goals!! I am also going to make more of an effort this year to comment on other’s blog posts! I don’t know why I haven’t done as much in the past, because its’ actually quite fun!

And agh – I know what it’s like to get SO CLOSE to that 100 book reading goal. I was at 97 a few years back, and I just COULD NOT make it in time. I’ve set my goal for 75 this year, so fingers crossed!
