Last week’s topic: Plans for the future

introextro

I think as readers, many of us are introverts. We’d rather stay home on a Friday night and read a book rather than go out and party. Am I right?

So, am I an introvert or extrovert? For the most part, I am an introvert. 9 times out of 10 I am much more content staying in than going out. But, just because I’m an introvert does not mean I’m shy or quiet!  Here’s a good explanation I found from Patricia Weber

A common misconception is introverts are shy and quiet — however, that’s not always true. When the topic suits their fancy or when they’re around people with whom they are comfortable, introverts may talk non-stop.

This is so true for me! Also, while I’m not much of a talker with strangers, I have no problem speaking my mind.

Although, whether or not I act like an introvert or extrovert really just depends on the situation…

Times when I’m an introvert:

  • With strangers
  • In big crowds
  • When I’m reading

I am not a people person. I clam up around strangers and I would rather go invisible in a big crowd than draw attention to myself. I can’t stand tons of eyes on me, and I’m socially awkward with new people because I never know what to say! And I think the reading kind of goes without saying…I don’t want to talk if I’m absorbed in a book, duh ;)

Times when I’m an extrovert:

  • With friends
  • With bookish people
  • When I’m drinking

If you know me well enough, then I have no problem being crazy around you. When I’m with good friends I can sometimes be loud and obnoxious! With bookish people, I could start talking about books and never stop. I’ve never had any avid reader friends, so I tend to get a little excited when I have someone to talk books with! I’m also a very friendly drunk, haha. That rarely happens anymore, though, as I don’t go out and hang with people much anymore. I used to have a lot of friends that I partied with almost every weekend, and we were a rowdy bunch. But I drifted away from that group of people as well as the drinking. I’m not much of a social person these days, to be honest. I’m perfectly content to either stay home and read a book or spend time with my fiancé!

Your turn! Make your own post telling everyone whether you’re an introvert or extrovert and link up :)

  1. YAY! I finally remembered to link up … having written these ahead of time, I’m SO BAD at remembering to add my link.

It sounds like we’re a lot alike. I’m totally introverted in new social situations with strangers, but quite chatty once I’m comfortable. I love that you noted about being comfortable with bookish people…knowing that someone’s a reader is definitely the BEST kind of icebreaker!

  2. Ah, yes, I’m this kind of introvert too! My close friends say I’m actually the noisiest in our group, and I totally agree with the bookish people thing. That is why I love meeting up with my fellow bloggers; it’s usually a whole day of talking about books <3

  3. I’m really similar to you. I never know what to say to strangers! But with my friends, I am always chatty. And of course when I find someone to talk books with!

  4. I’m definitely an introvert. Socially awkward doesn’t even cover it… XD People also quite terrifying me…hehe. Which is why I love blogging so much, because I can actually complete my thoughts by typing instead of stammering through it! XD

  5. I’m definitely more of an introvert than extrovert. I of course love going out with friends and hanging out. However, I prefer to avoid large social gathering. Such as parties. I was never much of a partier in college. I much rather stay in my apartment alone, than have to socialize with a bunch of people that were probably going to get super drunk. I also don’t go out of my way to make social plans. I tend to leave that up to my other friends. Yay for introverted tendencies! I love this topic. :)

  6. I have exactly the same thing! When I meet new people or when I’m in a group, I’m always shy and I like to stay in the background. But when I can talk about a topic I like or when I’m around friends, I have no problems with being present. You just need to give me time to get to know you and after that, I can ramble for hours :p

I don’t like partying though. I’d rather stay home and enjoy a good book/movie/TV show, especially because I don’t like drunk people.

Oh man, you describe me exactly! I’m definitely an introvert, but you wouldn’t know it around my friends. I don’t really like talking to strangers. I don’t mind some idle chatter, but I don’t really want to have conversations with people standing in line.

  8. Yes I definitely know what you mean! I love being around people and making new friends, but I feel like I’m super awkward around them. I just LOVE interacting and doing group things, but I hate the pressure of trying to keep up a conversation. It’s just so hard! Ugh my life is so confusing. I agree with you, I can talk for hours and hours with someone about something I’m super passionate about, but other times I’m like, “Meh.” Fantastic post, Jessi! <33

I’m pretty much exactly the same as you. I’m an introvert in crowds or with people I’m unfamiliar with. But, when I’m with people who I am close to, I can talk and talk and talk.

  10. Introvert! I’m not a talker in most cases; I’d much rather just hang back and listen. I can chit-chat well enough, but I’m not usually the person to start conversations. My favorite people to hang out with are the ones that don’t mind occasional silences (which make meals and quiet sporting events ideal situations) and have interests away from mine that I can ask about and they can tell me about. ;) Social interaction wears me out though. A party will zap me for a couple of days. I’d much rather have a nice dinner with a couple close friends.

  11. I’m definitely an introvert as well and agree with everything you said! I’m also sure my husband probably wishes I would be more introverted when I start blabbing to him about the books I’m reading!

  12. I am definitely an introvert as well. I would rather stay inside 99% of the time… it’s actually a big to-do for me to leave my house, and I hate going out. I’m very shy at first but I warm up to people very easily though and then I’m REALLY talkative. I’m strange.. haha.

I love this feature Jessi! I really need to start participating I think :)

I’m pretty much you. Though I go out and drink on weekends, I don’t always like it. But there’s girls there, so I’d rather go than stay home. lol
but yeah, I’m kind of shy when it comes to new people, but when I get to know them better i am crazy and show a different side of me.
I recently meet a girl who has a passion for reading books. She’s so pretty, and I think our friendship is turning into something more, but we’ll see. Either way, I don’t want to lose. It’s hard to find someone who likes reading as much as I do.
    As always, great post Jessi.
    Greetings

I’m a huge introvert, I’m shy when it comes to new people but I do open up more once I get to know you . I saw somewhere a post talking about how it’s hard for shy or socially awkward people to get their hair done because of the pressure to do small talk which I’m so bad at .
