2ajkw0Meet Kelly!

Hi there! I’m Kelly and I’m currently 19. I live in NYC and I read on the subway almost everyday. (Almost because sometimes I cram for exams on the subway. :P) I am really obsessed with Criminal Minds, Pokemon, and Digimon. I’m currently rewatching Digimon Frontier (my favorite Digimon season) for the fifth time. Yes, I’m crazy. Or obesessed.

[Jessi] OMG, I haven’t seen Digimon in FOREVER! Now I wanna watch it :D

How long have you been blogging? What made you want to start a book blog?

By the time this interview is posted, it would be about two months past my first blogoversary. I can’t believe that it’s almost been a year already (from the date I wrote this up). At first, I started a book blog because I wanted to keep track of all the books I read and what I liked or didn’t like about it. After two or so months, I popped out of my turtle shell and eventually put myself out there in the blogosphere. I so do not regret doing that because it gave me an opportunity to meet so many awesome people and books.

What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?

Watching Criminal Minds. Or Digimon. Or Big Brother. And hey, isn’t the cast of Big Brother 15 just AWFUL this year? Ugh.

What is your favorite part about blogging? Least favorite?

My favorite part of blogging is meeting new bookish people. All my real life friends avoid books like it’s the flu, so I was alone with nobody to talk to about books – until I discovered book blogging.  My least favorite part about book blogging is definitely when I didn’t schedule or write a post for a day. I just feel guilty for not having a post up that day and…I don’t really know how to describe it. :P

Where did you come up with the name for your blog?

My blog was formally known as Oh Damn Books. I just randomly thought up that name and thought it was so cool. However, when I was planning on moving to WordPress, I have a change of heart because I’ve read an article somewhere that said that domains shouldn’t have curse words in it. Sadly, some people consider “damn” a curse word. It took me awhile to think up of the blog name Effortlessly Reading – I chose “effortlessly” because it’s effortlessly my favorite word and “reading” because hey, it’s a book blog. I bounced my blog name idea with several people and in the end, I decided to go with it. I’m glad I did. ;D

Do you have any specific book bloggers that inspire you?

Tons of bloggers inspire me (including you Jessi ;D). The list of bloggers that inspire is just so long that I don’t want to list them out.

[Jessi] Aww, gosh! *blushes*

What do you look for in a blog when following? What are your pet peeves?

I look for book reviews on books I read or am interested in reading. I also see if they post at least three times a week. If they post 75% memes, then no thanks. One of my major pet peeves is when music plays when I open up a book blog. There is nothing else worse than that.

What’s your favorite book(s)?

Such a hard question! Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols, Everneath by Brodi Ashton, and the list goes on and on…

Favorite author?

I have SO many favorite authors: Stephanie Perkins, Brodi Ashton, Huntley Fitzpatrick, Elizabeth Hoyt, Elizabeth Norris, are just a few of my favorite authors.

What is the biggest turn off for you when you’re reading a book?

Three words: Annoying dumb characters. Or hey, cheating characters.

What first draws you to a book to make you want to read it?

Call me shallow, but the cover always draws me to a book. If the book has a gorgeous cover.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Shy, sarcastic , stubborn.

[Jessi] Sounds like me! XD

Name a random fact about yourself.

I sew a lot, but have never finished a single project. I expect perfection, so if I see even one stitch that’s looser than all the others, I re-do the whole thing all over again.

Do you have a job? If so, what do you do?

Yes I do! :D I work at an afterschool program on Wednesdays and Thursdays, helping 2nd graders do their homework. To think I have a lot of homework now…

What did you want to be when you were little? Has that changed?

I wanted to be a teacher, artist, and writer, all in that order. That sadly has changed because my parents basically ruined my dreams with the words “no money.” ):

Randomness

 Cats or dogs?
DOGS. Sorry, but I can’t stand cats.

 Favorite animal?
It went from frogs to ducks to killer whales to elephants to ducks again. It’s probably going to change to killer whales soon because I’m visiting the museum of Natural History soon where they sell these ADORABLE whale plushies.

 White, dark, or milk chocolate?
Milk chocolate.

 Coke or Pepsi?
I don’t drink soda unless it’s the only option. And besides, fast food stores in NYC only have one option available. :P

 Favorite TV show?
Criminal Minds. I’ve watched every single episode so I can basically tell you who the bad guy is as soon as he shows up.

 Movie?
I don’t watch much movies.

 Color?
Orange for Charmander. Told you I’m obsessed with Pokemon.

Thanks for being here today, Kelly! It was great getting to know you! :)

RUDE, KELLY. You could at least make some shout-outs to bloggers who inspire you. ;D

I totally understand the not scheduling a post thing. It’s like a gut reaction. I want to post certain things, but sometimes I don’t feel motivated to type the post up (even if there’s a deadline0. It’s okay, Kelly! Your followers won’t abandon you or forget you!

    Shy, sarcastic, stubborn.
That’s like me too! (WE THREE ARE THE SAME. ;D)

HDU. Cats are superior creatures. Why do you think the Egyptians worshipped them?

    • But, but, butt, if I accidentally left someone out (let’s face it, with me, that would totally happen), they will get all offended and stuff. D:
Better be safe than sorry. :P
Ha ha, but I just feel SO guilty if I don’t post, like how I’m feeling now atm. I don’t want to do a WoW for tomorrow.
      YES WE ARE. :D
Yes, but since they’re also “superior” creatures and they know it, they get snobby and stuck-up. I’ll just HAVE to introduce you to the cats in my neighborhood Cee. They are so arrogant!

  2. Great interview, Jessi! I really enjoy these posts getting know other bloggers.

Kelly, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a blog that plays music once you open it. I’m happy about that!

  3. Heeeeey, Digimon! I loved that show whem I was a kid and I watched some episodes a few months ago. Meeting other book lovers is the best thing in the world. It’s so fun to talk with people who know that reading is awesome. Shy, sarcastic & stubborn, we have that in common, haha.

    • I need to re-watch Digimon sometime soon. I just finished watching the first 2 seasons of Sailor Moon. :D
I know! We can book push each other and just talk.
Looks like four people, including me, has that trait in common so far. ;D
