My name is Melissa, I’m 23, and from the US. I started out as a passionate reader and turned into a full on book blogging addict. When I’m not blogging you can find me on twitter pretty much any time of the day (except when I’m at work). I’m always looking to connect with other bloggers and book enthusiasts.
How long have you been blogging? What made you want to start a book blog?
It all started back in August of 2011. I had just graduated college and was working half days so I didn’t know what to do with all my free time. When Hurricane Irene hit, my house was without power for awhile. My brother and his girlfriend had been staying over with their Pomeranian/Poodle, Harley (or Harley Bear as we like to call him). I found myself reading a lot since there was no tv, internet, or cellphones to distract me. And Harley lay next to me the whole time.
My passion for reading had been reignited and ever since the hurricane I have read every single day. My dad suggested I start a blog one day and use Harley as a mascot. I made one just kidding around, but didn’t really use it. Around March 2012 everything in my life started going wrong. I decided to start reading and blogging more to get my mind off of things. I discovered the amazing world of kind, funny, and supportive book bloggers and haven’t stopped blogging since. It got me through the rough patch and now it’s a comfort to know it’s always there when I have a hard day.
What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?
I LOVE Zumba, scrapbooking, writing, drawing, and listening to music.
What is your favorite part about blogging? Least favorite?
Favorite part is getting to meet and talk to other passionate bloggers because before blogging I had no one to discuss how hot Daemon is or if I was Team Peeta or not. Least favorite is when people in the blogging community make mistakes and everyone jumps down their throat. We’re all human.
Where did you come up with the name for your blog?
My brother’s adorable dog!
[Jessi] He is pretty darn cute :)
Do you have any specific book bloggers that inspire you?
Giselle at Xpresso Reads
. She’s probably the best blogger out there and she designs awesome blog buttons for other people now.
What do you look for in a blog when following? What are your pet peeves?
I look for good content. If the person wrote a thoughtful review, has a few memes, giveaways, and other posts then I’ll usually follow. My pet peeve is when people summarize the book in their review and then put one paragraph about what they thought. If I wanted a summary I’d go to goodreads.
I hate that too! I read a review because I want to know what that person thinks, not what the book is about!
What’s your favorite book(s)?
This is hard. Right now I’d say Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout.
Sarah Dessen, Tahereh Mafi, and Veronica Roth!
What is the biggest turn off for you when you’re reading a book?
Insta-love. I’ve never looked at a guy for the first time and been like I love you and want to marry you and have your children (well except for Channing Tatum, but that doesn’t count!).
I’m with you on instalove! And Channing Tatum can have my babies any day. ;)
What first draws you to a book to make you want to read it?
Dare I say it? The cover. If there’s an ugly cover I won’t read it. I’ve probably missed out on a bunch of good books, but I’m a cover snob what can I say?
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Always dancing, shy, and silly.
Name a random fact about yourself.
I want to own a bakery some day.
Do you have a job? If so, what do you do?
Since I was 3 I wanted to be an elementary school teacher. I finished college with my degree and got some experience and decided I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do that anymore. I still have no idea what I want to do with my life, but for now I’m working at an insurance company doing data entry. I love working in an office with adults!
Cats or dogs?
Dogs all the way. Cats and I don’t get along. My friend’s kitten bit me the first time I went to pet it. It must have sensed my loyalty to dogs.
White, dark, or milk chocolate?
I’m into white chocolate lately. But really I’m addicted to all chocolate. I blame my grandma. She used to give us kids Dove chocolates if we got hurt, so my cousin and I used to fall purposely during roller skating just so we could get some chocolates. [Jessi thinks this idea is fabulous.]
Coke or Pepsi?
Favorite TV show?
Pretty Little Liars or Gilmore Girls
A Walk to Remember, Wedding Crashers, or Rent
Thanks for being here today, Melissa! It was fantastic getting to know you :)
