Blogiversary Week: Goals & Changes

goalschanges

I mentioned a couple of times these past few weeks that I wanted to start moving forward with the blog. After the Reader Feedback Survey results, I’ve gathered a lot of insight about what my readers think and have added that to my own plans.

GOALS

My main goal going into this next year is more interaction. I feel like in my first year of blogging I got out into the community and visited WAY more blogs than I have this past year. I want to spend at least a few hours each week to go comment on other blogs and find some new blogs, rather than just visiting only my favorites all the time.

Something else I would REALLY love to do is go to BEA! For the past two years I’ve seen all those posts about BEA experiences and I get so jealous! I want so badly to go and reach out to the community, especially to be able to meet book bloggers from all over the place (as well as authors)!

I’d also like to have more original content. My blog doesn’t stand out like I want it to. I’ve got a few ideas brewing, but not much is really solid yet. Still working on this!

I want to start scheduling farther in advance to take some pressure off of myself. When I wait until the last minute, I feel rushed to get something up and it sucks the enjoyment out of blogging. Part of this problem is that I am a major procrastinator. A little more planning will really help in the future!

I plan to start doing more discussions. I love reading discussions on other blogs! I don’t have many topics lined up right now, so if there’s anything you’d like to see me talk about please submit a suggestion!

CHANGES

Undersea Spotlight will now be called Welcome to the Family. I am going to do my best to switch up the questions and make them more unique to each specific blogger, that way they will be more interesting and fun!

My Undersea Spoils posts will now become Heartbeat Weekly. As the name suggests, it will be every single week (as opposed to every other week, which was the normal frequency for Spoils posts). These posts will include:

  • Book haul
  • Weekly recap
  • Posts from other bloggers that week
  • News (bookish/blogging related)
  • What’s been happening in my life

I don’t usually talk about my personal life on the blog, mainly because I didn’t think people would care to hear about it. But on the survey I had quite a few people say they wanted to know more about me, so I decided to add a short paragraph about my non-bookish week!

I will be introducing a new feature sometime in the next week. This feature will be meme style and I will encourage others to participate and link up. I don’t know how popular it will be, but I’m going to try it!

I now have a related posts tab! Woot!

I’m also going to change my schedule up. Instead of Monday and Wednesday reviews, I’m going to do Monday and Friday so they’re a bit more spread out. I also want to eliminate having a post Mon/Tue/Wed and then nothing until Saturday or Sunday. My old schedule worked until I dropped Follow Fridays, but now I don’t have content toward the end of the week. (More reviews was something that many people wanted, but with my work schedule and everything else in my life, I just can’t swing it. I don’t have the time to read that much.) Here is what the new schedule will look like:

  • Monday: Review
  • Tuesday: Welcome to the Family
  • Wednesday: Open
  • Thursday: New feature (coming soon!)
  • Friday: Review
  • Saturday: Varies (may include Nators Discuss, solo discussions, or another review)
  • Sunday: Heartbeat Weekly

If there’s anything else you’d like to see, feel free to let me know!

  1. Yeay for discussion posts! It’s always so much fun to see what other bloggers think about a certain subject :) and I like that you are going to switch up the questions for the “Welcome to the family”

  2. I love the goals you’ve set! I really hope we can *both* go to BEA this year and then we can meet up! I’m right there with you on interaction. I really need to work on that too. It’s been hard for me to keep up lately and I know my interaction is slipping. :(

Good luck with the goals! :)

    • Thank you!! And YES!!! I’m pretty dead set on going, as long as I can afford it. Pretty sure I won’t have a problem taking the time off. Can’t wait!!!

Yeah, I have trouble just finding the time to read and have content these days! Not enough hours in the day :(
