5 Standalones That Deserve a Sequel

5 Standalones That Deserve a Sequel

Last week I talked about sequels that didn’t live up to the first book. This week, I want to highlight a few amazing standalones that I desperately wished DID have a sequel! (Is there no middle ground?!)   Stain – This book sent me into such a slump, it’s one of my favorites! Definitely my favorite standalone. I desperately need more of the characters and world! When Sequels Don’t Live Up to the First Book

When Sequels Don’t Live Up to the First Book

Do you ever read a book and LOVE it – then you wait in desperate anticipation for months for the sequel, only to read it and be totally let down? Happens to me ALL. THE. TIME. What is it with Second Book Syndrome? Here’s a few that I gave very different ratings to the second book as compared to the first: Do you agree with any of these? Books I Wish I’d DNFed

Books I Wish I’d DNFed

If you know me at all, you know I’m a ruthless DNFer. When I’m not enjoying a book, I rarely stick around for very long unless I have a reason to (usually hype, or a friend rec that I trust). It made me wonder what my 5 star reads looked like for 2018, and I thought I’d do a post analyzing my own stats! 5 star books of 2018 I figured the number would be low since I’m a picky rater. I had 13 in […]

Things That Make Me DNF (Do Not Finish)

Things That Make Me DNF (Do Not Finish)

For those of you who’ve been here a while, you know I’m a ruthless DNFer. If I’m not enjoying a book by 50-100 pages, I typically move on. Sometimes I don’t even give it that long. I refuse to force my way through a book I’m not enjoying when there are so many other fish in the sea, so to speak! Without further ado, here are the reasons I choose to DNF a book! Pacing Poor pacing is the number […]

Sometimes Giving an Author a Second Try Pays Off

Sometimes Giving an Author a Second Try Pays Off

This post is inspired directly from Paper Fury’s post Do You Give Authors’ Works Second Chances? Cait’s post posed a fabulous question, and when I went to comment on it I realized – there’s a lot of authors that have written books I love as well as books I hate. And coincidentally enough, when I stumbled on her post I was in the middle of Like a River Glorious by Rae Carson; which is significant because I love that series and I […]
