I had forgotten how….disturbing the TimeKeeper Demons were! Holy crap, some of the parts made me cringe so hard. But there were a lot of other grotesque and disturbing things that I hadn’t remembered. There are some pretty unsavory things in this story. But that’s not really a bad thing, because if Demons were ravaging the world, isn’t that what one would expect? Douglass brought them to life in their terrifying and monstrous nature. I found that I still remembered […]

This book moves into the second story arc of the series. You can tell that it was originally supposed to be a trilogy – by itself, the first three books are a complete story. But, unlike some series that continue after they were supposed to stop, it doesn’t feel like beating a dead horse. Like they were squeezing all the life they possibly could get out of the series. It’s just a new story line! It’s 40 years into the future, […]

Review: Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

As far as high fantasies go, this one was fairly well done but it felt very generic. The pacing was fast, making the 432 pages go by pretty quick. The main thing that ruined my enjoyment of this book is that I felt like I’d already read it before: In Throne of Glass. There were too many similarities – strong, ass-kicking orphaned heroine, a dead queen talking to her in her dreams, a princely untouchable love interest, …and a quasi love triangle […]

Meh. That’s the best word I can describe this book with, and it’s mostly all I have to say about it. But I can’t write a one word review, can I? First of all, this book was weird. And confusing. There were a lot of WTF moments, and sometimes it didn’t make any sense at all. There were a lot of terms that weren’t explained, either: downhollow, fiend (which I eventually figured out was basically a demon), crooked (I finally […]

Review: Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

I’m going to be honest, I really struggled with this book at first. The first half was excruciatingly boring, to the point that I almost gave up. I had to put it down several times – I read to 10%, put it down and picked up Trial by Fire; picked it back up after I finished that one only to put it back down at 20%; started and finished Fiendish, then picked HoF back up again, this time pushing myself through […]

Review: Illusions of Fate by Kiersten White

Review: Illusions of Fate by Kiersten White

While fairly fluffy (as per usual with Kiersten White), Illusions of Fate was a cute and magical read! I liked Jessamin for the most part. She was stubborn, but determined, and stood up for what she believed in no matter what. I love that she’s not white! It’s so rare to find that in YA, it was refreshing to have an MC with a different background. I’m not quite sure how I felt about Finn, though. At times he reminded me a […]
