Meet Emily!

So hi there! I’m Emily and I’m human who is age fourteen this year. I’m a goose hybrid as well :D (LAWSON!) I live in Singapore, and it’s hot and cold and sometimes rather temperamental. I’m a Christian. And I also love to do archery!

How long have you been blogging? What made you want to start a book blog?

I started blogging in 2012. I’m a crazy bookworm and once or twice I tried to spaz with my sister over a novel I’m simply crazy about or this boy inside that I’m totally falling head over heels for. And I would always get a response which is like this .__.

I desperately needed to find an outlet, so that I can share my feelings with people who can actually understand how I am feeling at that point in time. Thus started my Goodreads account! Soon after, I started my blog, in March 2013, because I decided it would be nice to have a little corner of this universe, otherwise known as the blogsphere, to myself where I can share my views. Just like so many others out there!

What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?

When I’m not blogging or reading, I’m either listening to Lawson or Ellie Goulding (I’m a sucker for British Artists), playing golf, shooting arrows, being crafty (with my hands, of course), studying, or in school.

What is your favorite part about blogging? Least favorite?

Ah. My Favourite part of blogging is definitely meeting new fellow bloggers! I love making friends, and of course, another once of the perks is now I have one more friend to express myself to! Of course, having another excuse to read more is another one of those perks!

My least favorite part is dealing with those negative haters. It’s rather demoralizing some times, okay maybe all the time, and some times I just have to stay off the internet to keep to myself a little. But as time goes by it gets easier to handle, thankfully :)

Where did you come up with the name for your blog?

I wanted my blog name to be something unique, and something close to my heart. As a little girl, I used to play and chase after butterflies, developing my love for those little winged creatures. I really loved watching them fly, and similarly, I have always believed that one day I will be able to take ‘flight’, and stand out and be special, just like everyone else is special in their own way!

Besides, I always love things that sound ethereal. :D

Do you have any specific book bloggers that inspire you?

Yes! I have so many :) Don’t be bashful, but you’re one of them! ;) I love how you are always so honest with your feelings and how you aren’t afraid to express how you feel! And then there’s also Giselle from Xpresso Reads, Annabelle from Sparkles and Lightning, Hannah at Book Haven Extraordinaire, and the team over at Bewitched Bookworms! And of course, not forgetting the best and first actual bloggy friend I could ever meet, Lisseth over at Read-a-holicZ

All of them (you) have been such a big inspiration to me. You’re always so generous, honest and friendly to all your followers!

[Jessi] Dawww gosh, thank you! ^.^

What do you look for in a blog when following? What are your pet peeves?

When I follow a blog, I typically look out for interesting, honest content, and can tickle me to laugh! I love humor! Sometimes a light dose of sarcasm makes me laugh, especially when I can relate! I also look out for content that I can tell is from the heart. Also, pretty designs may at times (but rarely) spur me to bookmark that blog so that I can keep going back!

What usually peeves me is when others use too many bad words in one post, an ‘eff’ here and ‘eff’ there, though I can keep my cool when it is used a teensy weensy bit. Or when I can tell that person is really upset. Sometimes scary, gory blog designs can really put me off too :O

What’s your favorite book(s)?

Now that is so tough to decide!

I really loved Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen. I have always loved the tale of Robin Hood since I was small and my mom told it to me, and this fresh take on it was absolutely brilliant (did I mention that Scarlet was Miss Gaughen’s debut novel?). I loved the characters (Robin and Scarlet *squee!*) and the romance was so sweet! (Did I mention I’m a sucker for archers too?)

I also loved the 2nd to 4th book of the Need Series by Carrie Jones! The Norse Mythology was brilliant and Astley (uber sexy) was such a heart-stopper! The characters were all quirky and full of spunk and the whole storyline was so driven and breath-taking.

Breathe by Sarah Crossan is also another of my favorites! It was such a fantastic and almost realistic exaggeration of our future if we continue in our wasteful ways.

The Books of Bayern were also brilliant and that’s the type of fantasy that I fell in love with a long time ago.

Divergent was totally epic too. I’m so looking out for the movie! (though I don’t necessarily agree with the casting)

Favorite author?

Carrie Jones. She’s just like Zara in so many ways. And she likes fudgesicles!

Gennifer Albin. Total genius in my opinion, and I love her wit.

And then there’s Shannon Hale. She’s such a genius too!

What is the biggest turn off for you when you’re reading a book?

Insta-love and angsty characters. Oooh. They make me want to STRANGLE somebody. Who falls in love because you’re buff, have blonde hair and blue eyes? (No Astley, I’m not referring to you because even though you look like that, you are still loved) And yes, you can live without that boy, my dear friend. After all, you only met him for what… a week?

[Jessi] This. THIS. Right here. I hate that! Ohh, I just met you two days ago but I’d wither and die without you. Gag me with a spoon!

And the curse words. Yikes. Dear character, if you want to say the F word, you could say it to the toilet bowl, I’m sure he won’t mind. But please remember to flush after you’re done.

[Jessi] Lmao. Don’t read September Girls!

What first draws you to a book to make you want to read it?

Oops. Guilty as charged. Yes. I look at the covers. Next step is reading the blurb. Next is reading what other credible bloggers have to say about it. Final Step: Good? I’m making a trip to the bookshop!

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Odd. Bad sense of humor. Bookworm.

Name a random fact about yourself.

I have a problem with unfinished food. (probably explains my size up to this day)

Do you have a job? If so, what do you do?

I have a job! Full-time student and part-time bookworm :D

What did you want to be when you were little? Has that changed?

When I was little, I wanted to be an artist (though all the humans I draw have at least one feature that is … not human-like), then I wanted to be an author. Now I want to be a doctor so that I can help people :)

Randomness

 Cats or dogs?

Dogs! Definitely! Toby my dog wins all :D And I have Ailurophobia. (which is why having the resident cat in my school rubbing itself all over my friends makes me run. Even from my friend.)

 Favorite animal?

Dogs, Horses and Elephants.

 White, dark, or milk chocolate?

Milk Chocolate rules all!

 Coke or Pepsi?

Coke. Though it’s bad for my teeth and my waistline.

 Favorite TV show?

Sherlock, Hawaii Five-O and The West Wing (a political drama!)

 Movie?

The Lord Of The Rings (preciousssssss. Did I mention I can do a like imitation of Gollum?), Avengers (!!!! HAWKEYE :D) and Iron Man 3 (epic. And so scary!!!)

 Color?

Purple, Blue, Turquoise, Pink

Thanks for being here today, Emily! It was great getting to know you! :)

*face palm* the email. I forgot again- I can do it these days as I no longer have exams ;) I WILL DO TOMORROW OR THE DAY AFTER.

Anyhoo, HI EMILY! Young teen bloggers rule! I’m 13 ^,^ And I totally agree, mild hhocolate is the best. Dark is just too bitter for me and white is too creamy. (I’m critical like that)

    Awesome interview you two! <33

  2. LissethTorres

  3. Hi, Emily! The potty-mouth thing is hilarious! I agree most of the time, although I did just finish an excellent series with quite a few curse words involved. I love bloggers with a good sense of humor – I’m a fan of snark so throw in the sarcasm ;) The insta-love comments and Jessi’s replies were fantastic! Love it :D So great to learn more about you :D Jaclyn @ JC’s Book Haven.

    • Hi Jaclyn! I’m glad you found that funny xD I know, sometimes if the series is good, it’s okay to overlook those little blips of ink on the pages ;) Thanks for stopping by my interview with Jessi! :D

  4. Eileen Li

OMGG HII hello blogger who is the same age as me (although I’ve only been fourteen for like ten days so I don’t know if that counts) it is wonderfully wonderful to meet you this fine day! *waves* I love all of your answers, especially after you brought up Breathe and your hate for insta-love. Also, Jessi, Annabelle, Hinky (what I call Hannah we have an odd relationship), Giselle, and Lizzy are SOOO awesome omg they’re like so friendly and nice and funny and easy to talk to and I think I’m using too many “and”s which is usually the sign for me to shut up.

    Fantastic interview, you too! <33

    • Hi Eileen!!!! :DDD So we’re both June babies huh? My birthday was on the 17th! xD Thanks so much :) I know, I really love you bloggers because they’re so epic, and I love your vlogs too :D
Thanks for stopping by my interview :DDD (and don’t worry I use too many “ands” sometimes too ;) ) <3
