4 Stars

The summer holidays are dragging on and Harry Potter can't wait for the start of the school year. It is his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and there are spells to be learnt and (unluckily) Potions and Divination lessons to be attended. But Harry can't know that the atmosphere is darkening around him, and his worst enemy is preparing a fate that it seems will be inescapable...

With characteristic wit, fast-paced humour and marvellous emotional depth, J.K. Rowling has proved herself yet again to be a master story-teller.

My thoughts

I am getting so addicted to this series! I love the magic of it, and Rowling has a way of pulling you in. This series will get under your skin!

I think so far this has been my least favorite of the series, but I still enjoyed it. I have to admit I was a bit bored in the beginning at the Quidditch World Cup. It felt like it droned on and on, and I think some of that could have been cut out.

I did really like the trials of the Triwizard Tournament, though! I love that I never know what’s going to happen next with this series. Even though I’ve seen all of the movies (when they first came out, so it’s been a while), I don’t really remember any of it at this point. The only ones that ever stuck out were the first three, and after that it’s all a blur. I know the gist of it – mainly who dies and how it ends – but all of the details are lost because the movies didn’t really make much of an impression on me after the third one (really, after the second – those are the best).

I’m super excited to continue with this series! I can’t believe I’m already on book 5 – I usually have a terrible problem with series longer than 3 books!

  1. Goblet of Fire has always been my least favorite of the series. I was never able to get into the Quidditch World Cup much either. When I first read the series, I actually think I skipped quite a bit of the book (I was pretty young at the time, so my attention span wasn’t all that great. Lol) and I only went back and read it after I had read the fifth book.
