3 Stars

Mila was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was a girl living with her mother in a small Minnesota town. She was supposed to forget her past—that she was built in a secret computer science lab and programmed to do things real people would never do.

Now she has no choice but to run—from the dangerous operatives who want her terminated because she knows too much and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her alive and unlock her advanced technology. However, what Mila’s becoming is beyond anyone’s imagination, including her own, and it just might save her life.

My thoughts

This is one of those books – you know, the ones you really enjoy while you’re reading them…but when you’re done, you forget it almost immediately and it fades away. It wasn’t memorable, and ultimately that’s what lowered my rating.

In the beginning, I thought this would be a 4 star book for me, easy. I was super on board with the blossoming romance between Mila and Hunter, despite not being a fan of romance. I actually kind of wanted more of that!

I usually hate when books are compared to other things, but the comparison to Bourne Identity was actually spot on! It’s basically the Young Adult version of the movies. I enjoyed the non-stop action and the espionage. But, for some reason, I lost a little bit of interest. Why? I don’t know! It makes me sad. I can’t pinpoint exactly what happened.

I found Mila’s struggle with her humanity very realistic. It was a constant forethought – everything she did, she questioned. Was it real emotion, or faked? How could she not be human?

Overall, it was a good read. It won’t stick with me, but I would still recommend it to fans of action and espionage!

  1. I don’t really get book amnesia as much as the next blogger, so this one might be for me! Also, the cover. How can that cover NOT be memorable? I loved it the first time I saw it.

Yay for the romance being good! SHIP THAT <333

    Awesome review, Jessi :)

  2. I remember enjoying this one when I read it. But when I stop to think about it, I can’t really remember specific parts of it or what I loved about it. I didn’t even realize that until I read your review. Ha. Great review.
