After a lifetime of bounties and bloodshed, Viv is hanging up her sword for the last time.

The battle-weary orc aims to start fresh, opening the first ever coffee shop in the city of Thune. But old and new rivals stand in the way of success — not to mention the fact that no one has the faintest idea what coffee actually is.

If Viv wants to put the blade behind her and make her plans a reality, she won't be able to go it alone.

But the true rewards of the uncharted path are the travelers you meet along the way. And whether drawn together by ancient magic, flaky pastry, or a freshly brewed cup, they may become partners, family, and something deeper than she ever could have dreamed.

My thoughts

This was such a cute and wholesome read! I wasn’t sure if I would like it, because it’s literally just about an orc opening a coffee shop, and that’s not much of a plot. Tbh it sounded kinda boring. BUT, it definitely wasn’t! It’s true that there’s really not much of a plot going on, because the focus is all on the characters. And in a character driven novel, good characterization is so important. Thankfully, Travis pulled it off beautifully!

I enjoyed all of the characters, but I especially loved Amity (she’s a cat, of course I did) and Thimble! The relationship between Viv and Tandri was so sweet and heart warming.  The cozy feel of this book pulled me in – reading this book felt like a cross between stepping into a coffee shop and playing Skyrim. It made me want to crawl into the pages and live there!

I didn’t expect to find this book so charming. It made me giggle a few times, too. It cracked me up when they referred to coffee as ‘exotic bean water’ haha!

Also side note: I loved the Skyrim reference “I used to be an adventurer like you” XD
