Lemon Fresh has seen better days.

After the climactic battle in Babel, she finds herself separated from Ezekiel and Cricket in the wastelands. Lemon’s abilities to manipulate electricity mark her as a deviate, and deadly corporate operatives are hunting her to use as a weapon in the war between BioMaas Incorporated and Daedelus Technologies. Instead, Lemon finds herself falling in with a group of fellow deviates—a band of teenagers with astonishing abilities, led by an enigmatic figure known as the Major, who may hold the secrets to Lemon’s past.

Meanwhile, Cricket finds himself in possession of the puritanical Brotherhood, a religious cult set for a head-on collision with the Major and his band. Searching for Lemon, Ezekiel finds a strange ally in an old enemy, and uncovers a plot that may see him reunited with his beloved Ana.

And inside Babel, a remade Eve hatches a plan to bring an end to the world.

My thoughts

CAUTION: MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR LIFEL1K3

So, with the way the first book left off, I was wondering hardcore where that would leave us and what would happen next. The character turnarounds in this one were astounding!

I’m sad that Eve is basically a villain now, but it makes for a really interesting story! I’m hoping there’s still some redemption for her in the future. It’s kind of scary how far off the deep end she went after the revelations in the first book O__O

Also, Preacher. My first thought upon seeing him again was, HOW is this asshole still alive?! He’s like a freaking cockroach! Then, he and Ezekiel are thrown together as unwilling allies, and halfway through the book, I realized – I was actually starting to…like him. WHAT THE HELL, JAY?! How can I like such a jackass?! But I found myself laughing out loud at things he was saying, and cackling at the banter between he and Zeke, and somewhere along the way, I realized that I was attached. That I would actually be upset if anything happened to him. View Spoiler »

I’m kind of thrilled for Lemon to basically get her own book. She was more of the sidekick in the first book, but she was my fave character! I love her so much! I think it’s kind of perfect that she’s now looked upon as the heroine but she even makes comments about just being the sidekick. (The “brilliful” sidekick, to quote her haha)

Something I love about Jay is that he can bring the action and keep it going. There was never a dull moment! What a rollercoaster of a ride!

THAT ENDING?! JAY WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN *cries* The wait for book 3 is going to kill me!! View Spoiler »
