I recently saw Cristina @ Girl in the Pages post about her 5 star reading drought (which was originally inspired by Lauren @ Bookmark Lit’s post here), and I thought it was such a great post! It made me wonder what my 5 star reads looked like for 2018, and I thought I’d do a post analyzing my own stats!
5 star books of 2018
I figured the number would be low since I’m a picky rater. I had 13 in total (out of 71 books read so far), but 8 of them were re-reads, so I only had five new 5 star books this year. That is so depressing! If you don’t count re-reads, my 5 star books only account for 8% of what I read all year :(

You know what’s terrible about this category? 4 out of the 5 were tried and true authors for me that were basically guaranteed 5 stars before I ever picked them up. The only new-to-me author I rated 5 stars all year was Emily Suvada (This Mortal Coil). That makes me really sad!
5 star Re-reads

Re-reading really worked out for me! I enjoyed diving back into some old favorites so much, I definitely want to start doing it more often! I’ve made a pact with myself to re-read the Lotus War trilogy every year from here on out!
Almost 5 star reads

Here’s the ones that came super close, but fell just a tad short, so I gave them 4.5 stars instead!
5 star predictions for 2019
I really love how Lauren makes predictions about what books will be 5 stars in the upcoming year, and looks back on them at the end of the year! I want to start doing this!
Books I know will be 5 stars

![](http://novelheartbeat.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/soul-of-the-sword.jpg)
Jay Kristoff and Julie Kagawa are always a 5 star win for me! There’s a tiny chance that Aurora won’t be 5 stars, because it’s not solely Jay writing it (I gave Obsidio only 4 stars because I was a bit disappointed), but I doubt it!
Books I hope will be 5 stars
It’s suuuper hard for me to predict which books I’m going to love, because I just never know. Sometimes I expect to love something, and don’t; sometimes I don’t think I’ll like something at all and I end up loving it. I have high hopes for these, though!

- Hades’ Daughter by Sara Douglass – I honestly don’t know why I haven’t read this yet. Her Wayfarer Redemption series is my favorite Adult series, and my second fave series of all time! I am so pumped to read something else by her!
- The Girl King by Mimi Yu – ASIAN FANTASY. Yesssss. So far there’s only been one Asian fantasy I didn’t care for (Empress of All Seasons), so I have high hopes for this one!
- Stain by A.G. Howard – This one sounds fabulous, and I adored her Splintered trilogy!
- The Storm Crow by Kalyn Josephson – Magical elemental crows!! This one sounds so unique and amazing!
- The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron – The synopsis sounds so intriguing!
How many 5 star reads did you have this year?

Love posts like this! I NEED to read This Mortal Coil. I met the author and she was very nice. I vow to read that book in 2019. I had a good amount of five star reads this year (17), but that includes some really good graphic novels.
