4 Stars

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison--even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

My thoughts

Thorne reminded me sooo much of Flynn Rider!! (So obviously, I loved him immediately.) View Spoiler »

Scarlet was so awesome! She is definitely my favorite of the series (I read Cress before writing this review). I loved her snark! She was also fiercely loyal to her friends. I absolutely loved that Scarlet defended Cinder before she met her! The best part of this book was definitely everyone coming together, because it’s what I was waiting for the whole book.

The wolf hybrids were so creepy O__O Although I did really like Wolf. And I loooved Wolf and Scarlet together. They were perfect for each other and they were so cute! (They’re even more perfect in Cress haha. But I’ll get to that in the next review!)

I really enjoyed this book, but despite all that it still doesn’t top 4 stars for me just because I didn’t quite achieve the emotional connection I was hoping for. View Spoiler » Another issue is that while I loved diving back into the world, it won’t stick with me. Just like Cinder didn’t. I enjoyed it, yes, but I don’t LOVE this series like everyone else does I’m afraid. For me it’s one of those books that you pick up to read, you enjoy, and when you put it back down you forget about it until it’s mentioned again.

  1. You got me at the Thorne-Flynn Rider comparison!;)
I love his character a lot!And let me tell you a secret..*looks around and whispers*..I ship Thorne with Cinder! No offence to Kai,he’s great, but Cinder and Thorne have great chemistry and I can’t help but be a solo non canon shipper of these two:(

  2. Oh well now that you’ve mentioned a Flynn Rider comparison *bumps series up TBR list* I can’t believe that I still haven’t started these novels, they sound so fun! Great review :)

  3. Thorne is pretty fantastic. Scarlet the book is actually my least favorite in the series, although I still really like it. And I cannot wait for WInter. These books do stick with me, though. I think they are pretty darn fantastic.

  4. Those were my thoughts about Cinder; it was entertaining, but just didn’t wow me. I had TONS of people telling me how disappointed they were that I wasn’t blown away by it :/

  5. I actually liked this book more than the first. At first I only wanted to know what was happening to Cinder, but once I got over that I loved the story of Scarlet and Wolf. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
