2012-10-05_21-44-47_811Meet Emily!

Hello! My name is Emily and I am 24 =) I am from Tacoma, Washington but am currently living in Vermillion, South Dakota for Law School!

How long have you been blogging? What made you want to start a book blog?

I started my blog in May of 2011 but didn’t start actively blogging until November. So in November it will be 2 years! I started my blog because I did a review of Hunger Games on Goodreads and people messaged me asking if I had a blog. I was like “ummm…no…what’s a blog?” Then I started surfing around and finally was like “Ok! I can do one of these”

What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?

I just finished my second year of Law School so I’m usually studying. This summer I am interning with the Elk Pointe, South Dakota Prosecutor’s office so if I’m not reading/blogging I’m out prosecuting misdemeanor crimes.

What is your favorite part about blogging? Least favorite?

My favorite thing about book blogging is hearing back that my review helped someone in their decision to read a book. I also really like getting to know other bloggers and reading enthusiasts on Twitter.

My least favorite thing is getting behind and not getting to read the books I want to. I have books that have been sitting on my shelf for ages that I really want to read but because I’m so behind on my review schedule I feel like I will never get to them.

[Jessi] I know the feeling! I’ve got all these books I bought that I’m dying to read but can’t because review books come first =/

Where did you come up with the name for your blog?

When I first started my blog was called Emi’s Book Blog because I am totally and completely unoriginal. Then I wanted to do some kind of play on words and after a while I finally settled on “Falling for YA” ‘Cause I review YA lit and I’m falling for it, Get it?! (Random Note: I’m also terrible at word play).

Do you have any specific book bloggers that inspire you?

I really like Hayley @ YA-Aholic’s blog, her reviews have gotten me in to more Indie Reads. I am also constantly amazed with the girls at Nawanda Files! They run both an awesome book blog and YA Book Exchange, I don’t know how the do it. Katie’s Book Blog is also one that inspires me she has a good variety of content and her opinions on reviews usually mirror my own.

What do you look for in a blog when following? What are your pet peeves?

I look for good content and consistent posting. If you post something once every 3 weeks I’m not likely to follow you, if I’m really interested I will come back in a couple weeks and see if there is anything new.

My biggest pet peeve is cluttered blogs with too much crap on the sidebar and overly bright or too dark font colors. I also hate small type or overly large type. Keep things normal and I will be fine.

What’s your favorite book(s)?

My favorite book overall is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald it is the only book I re-read almost every year.

My favorite recent-ish releases are:
Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
In The Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters

Favorite author?

Sarah Rees Brennan and Maggie Stiefvater (I also love both of these authors blogs!)

What is the biggest turn off for you when you’re reading a book?

Poor character development/exploration. I like characters with some body and back story behind them. If your characters are just cookie cutters I don’t want to read about them.

What first draws you to a book to make you want to read it?

I actually stopped reading blurbs recently and started to pick books pretty much exclusively based on cover and what other bloggers have to say about them. I kept noticing that blurbs gave things away and I want to be genuinely surprised when I’m reading.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Outgoing. Funny. Loud.

Name a random fact about yourself.

I studied abroad in Japan.

Do you have a job? If so, what do you do?

I have one more year of Law School and then I hope to work in Criminal law, preferably Prosecution. I’ve also played around with the idea of becoming a Law Librarian =)

What did you want to be when you were little? Has that changed?

I wanted to be a Dolphin trainer for a while but in middle school I realized I hated science so I decided to become a lawyer and haven’t switched yet!

[Jessi] DUDE I feel the same way about being an Orca trainer! That’s my dream job, but damned if I’d be a marine biologist to do it, baha.

Randomness

 Cats or dogs?
Cats!! I have 2 and I’m working on becoming a crazy cat lady.

 Favorite animal?
ALL THE ANIMALS! My Mom used to call me Elmyra from the Looney Toons (Ok, she still calls me that). I was the child who brought home stray animals of all types. (This is Elmyra for those too young to remember her)

 White, dark, or milk chocolate?
Milk chocolate.

 Coke or Pepsi?
COKE!

 Favorite TV show?
I really love Supernatural and Doctor Who.

 Movie?
Zoolander.

 Color?
It changes every day but today I really like Turquoise.

Thanks for being here today, Emily! It was great getting to know you! :)
