What girl wouldn't want to be surrounded by the sexy guys from the hottest teen rock sensation in the country? 18-year-old Never "Neve" Knight, not only is surrounded by the hottest boys to hit the music charts, but she is the band's lead singer. As the band's lead singer and manager, Never formed and shaped the band to where it is today, a band on the rise and on the brink of being signed by a label. As one of the guys, she knew each of the band members since they were all snot-nose ten-year-olds. While her boys were the cutest guys and they would protect her like knights, she couldn't date any one of them and ruin the chance at being signed with the record label of her dreams.

That changes when one of the band members suddenly drops out of the band, and in walks Danny Blue, with his dreamy blue eyes, hot body, and British accent. Suddenly, Never's solid world has turned to mush, and her rule for not dating one of her band members is seriously challenged. Can she keep her head straight and get her band signed with a label without losing her heart?

My thoughts

This book contains sexual content and is suitable for mature readers only.

I’ve been wanting to read Kailin’s books for a while, so when I saw the tour I jumped on it. I wasn’t overly impressed with Never Say Never, but it was a light and cute read. I would definitely try out more of Kailin’s work in the future.

This one was short as you can see, so it was easy to get through. However, due to the short length, things were compressed and a bit rushed. Things moved a little fast between Never and Danny. Thankfully it wasn’t quite instaluv, but rather instalust – which is actually believable. The chemistry between them was convincing because it wasn’t immediate emotional attachment, just sexual tension at first. I did think the L word came about rather quickly, but again that was mostly due to the length. Although I still don’t think you could really love someone after knowing them for two months, but that’s just me. As long as I pretended it was over a span of time and not squeezed into a short story, I was fine.

Some of the sexual scenes got a bit cheesy for me, with sayings that just made me roll me eyes…like ‘trust me, I’m good at lovemaking’ or ‘Lie back and let me give it to you’….really? Who says that? It also kinda irked me how Never stated that there was nothing going on between her or her bandmates, and then all of the sudden every guy in her life was making a move on her and confessing their undying love. As if guys and girls can’t possibly be strictly platonic.

I couldn’t really connect with the characters like I wanted to, and I think that dragged the book down for me. Never was alright (aside from being slightly hypocritical sometimes), but I couldn’t really relate to her. Danny was alright too, but didn’t feel swoonworthy to me. And I couldn’t get a feel for any of the minor characters because they didn’t have much depth.

Other than that, it was pretty good. All in all, I like the idea – friends with benefits intend to keep it no strings attached but fall for each other in the end. I liked Never as a name, and the rockstar life was portrayed fairly well.

  1. There are some of her books I want to read, but this wasn’t one of them. And honestly, I don’t think I will read it. The disconnected feelings you had with the characters, the eyes-rolling romantic scenes, I don’t like it. Thanks for sharing your review :)
