Meet Laura!

My name is Laura and I just turned 30 (yikes, when did that happen!). I grew up in the midwest, but now live in the lovely state of Florida. It does get freaking hot in the summer, but it doesn’t snow in the winter. It is a good trade. My “real job” is working with dogs, which is great, but working with their owners sometimes make me crazy. :-)

[Jessi] I know how that goes! I work at a vet and sometimes I wonder if some of the people know the difference between a dog and a child! People get a little nuts when it comes to their pets >.<

How long have you been blogging? What made you want to start a book blog?

I have only been blogging since the end of March 2012. I don’t have many “real” friends that have the same obsession with books that I do so I had been thinking about it for almost a year. What finally sent me over the edge was I had been following Stacia Kane for a while, and she was having some contest to win an ARC of her latest book, and I couldn’t really enter without a blog. I didn’t get it set up in time to enter, but now I am ready!

What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?

I don’t understand, not reading? Lol, well I am either working, sleeping, doing other adult things like cleaning, cooking, etc, or getting things ready for my wedding. I am getting married in October, which is slowly sneaking up on me. So there isn’t a whole lot of time for me to have any other hobbies at the moment!

What is your favorite part about blogging? Least favorite?

I love the community. I have met so many people I can call friends, and others that have been so helpful with any questions.

My least favorite is the ever present risk of author retaliation. So far I have been pretty lucky, and only ever received one hateful email, but we have all heard the horror stories.

Where did you come up with the name for your blog?

Well, I have red hair, and am short, so it was pretty simple to know I wanted to go with Little Red Riding Hood. I originally wanted to do something along the lines of Little Red Reading Hood, but it was taken. After trying several variations, I came up with Little Read Riding Hood, and was excited because I knew I had found it.

Do you have any specific book bloggers that inspire you?

Oh good lord … There are so many that if I start naming them, one of two things will happen, the list will be so long that there is no way it would all fit on one blog post, or I will forget someone important and feel like an ass. There is a group on Goodreads, The Terrible Girls, that has been particularly wonderful. I felt like I had won a prize when I was invited. So all you Terrible girls, Thanks!

What do you look for in a blog when following? What are your pet peeves?

I look for content, like do they do things other than reviewing books, is it all memes, etc. Pet peeves … Captcha! I may not comment if it is on. Also, if they post several times per day … not cool. Spread it out.

What’s your favorite book(s)?

Seriously? Do you hate me? *sigh* Stacia Kane’s Downside Ghosts series is amazing. Read it. Again, if I listed them I would run out of space. I really just love to read.

Favorite author?

Stacia Kane. That woman is a goddess.

What is the biggest turn off for you when you’re reading a book?

If a book jumps all over the place without reason, I will put it down. I don’t mind several POV’s, but if the story isn’t coherent, I don’t see the point. I recently put a book down I was reading because the MC was proposed to by someone who was just a friend, laughed in his face, then a few pages later was trying to get in his pants. I get you can change your mind, but that mind change wasn’t fluid. It just was. I need to know the thought process, you know? (There was more that bothered me of course, but that is the simplest example)

What first draws you to a book to make you want to read it?

It’s all in the blurb. I don’t usually read paperbacks, so the cover has little effect for me. I look for certain key words that give me an indication it is a book I would like.

Name a random fact about yourself.

If you read my Birthday Bash post you know this already, but I once gave CPR to a Komodo Dragon. Through a tube, but still. :-)
I did read that! I think it’s awesome, I love Komodos!! :D

Do you have a job?

I run a dog daycare/hotel. We have a pool.

Wow! In our kennel (‘lodging’ facility for dogs) we so do not have a pool. Lame.

What did you want to be when you were little? Has that changed?

I wanted to be a vet. That changed because of Organic Chemistry II. *shudders*

Randomness

Cats or dogs?
Both, but if I had to pick, dogs.

White, dark, or milk chocolate?
Dark. I freaking love dark chocolate. It is my favorite.

Coke or Pepsi?
Coke.

Favorite TV show?

It isn’t on anymore, but Pushing Daisies. Best. Show. Ever.

Movie?
Um, I don’t know. Favorite horror movie is Event Horizon. Favorite Romance/Fantasy is What Dreams May Come. Favorite Classic (what I consider classic) is a tie between Dirty Dancing and The Princess Bride.

Color?
Dark royal purple. Or black.

Thanks for being here on the blog today, Laura! It was fantastic getting to know you! :)
