Novel Thoughts: No One’s Opinion is “Wrong”

Novel Thoughts: No One’s Opinion is “Wrong”

Not to be crass or anything, but opinions are like assholes. EVERYONE HAS ONE. So why do people constantly assume that their opinion is “right?” That their opinion is the only one acceptable to have? I feel this way about everything in life – opinions are just that. People need to learn the difference between fact and opinion. But today I’m going to discuss this in the bookish world. A while back, Asti @ Oh, the Books! made the post There […]

Novel Thoughts: Have You Ever Been Judged Because You’re a Reader?

Novel Thoughts: Have You Ever Been Judged Because You’re a Reader?

Most people are pretty nonchalant about the fact that I’m a reader. When I tell them how many books I read on average, they’re either like “Oh wow, good for you!” or “Holy crap, I wish I could get into reading” or even sometimes just look at me weird and nod like they don’t get it. But every once in a while I’ll happen on someone who is all “reading is dumb why would you do that.” Case in point: […]

Novel Thoughts: I suck at commenting

Novel Thoughts: I suck at commenting

I want to reply to every single comment I get. I really do. But I just…don’t. What happens the most is: I look at a comment on my blog. I can’t think of anything to reply other than “thank you” or some lame agreement, not amounting to more than a sentence, so I don’t reply. Instead I go to my commenter’s blog…but then I can’t find anything that I have any thoughts about that are worth commenting either. So I just…don’t….comment. Is that bad? While I want to acknowledge every […]

On my old Facebook page, back when I was still Auntie Spinelli Reads, I had nearly 1,000 likes. Then I had to start over. Now, despite having the new page for almost a year, I only have 166 likes. I’ve tried posting on the old page, tweeting, and posting on here. Nothing seems to help. My question is: Is there even any point? I’m honestly thinking of deleting my Facebook page altogether. It posts for me automatically when I publish a […]

Novel Thoughts: In Which I Fail at All 2014 Challenges

Novel Thoughts: In Which I Fail at All 2014 Challenges
Posted by Jessi (Geo) on August 13, 2014 | 12 Comments

I went into the year all gung-ho about my reading challenges. In fact, I set my goals lower than last year and only chose to participate in 4 challenges.   13 books behind schedule. THIRTEEN. How awful is that?! Two years ago, I read 140 books in a year. Last year I read 100. This year, I set my number low to alleviate some of the pressure. And still, I’m failing. *sighs* Granted, I did move into a new house and […]

Novel Thoughts: Being a Picky Reader Sucks

Novel Thoughts: Being a Picky Reader Sucks

Being a picky reader sucks  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read a book that everyone else loved, and ended up hating it. I feel like I’m almost always the black sheep compared to the majority of the population. Sometimes I really feel like I’m missing something that made them like it, but sometimes I wonder: Am I just too picky? Here’s a few examples: I don’t like most romance. If it’s not written a certain way, I’m […]
