Dying is easy. Living is hard. This book didn’t waste any time getting to the point. A few pages in I was already glued to the story, hand over my mouth in horror and shock. After the accident, Mia is left with the ultimate question – live with the pain or take the easy way out in death? I loved Mia’s family and friends. Like me, Mia has an awesome family (okay, so my parents didn’t get married in leather […]

This was my first foray into the world of horror books. And a good one it was! The first thing I loved about this book? The writing is RED. Which happens to be my favorite color, so bonus points there. The second thing (more bonus points), Blake used the word kerfuffle. Which happens to be my favorite word! She also used clusterfuck, which is another awesome, giggle-enticing word. Yay!   Anyway, off to the story. I don’t get scared watching […]

I actually started this book last year and the timing was just terrible so I only made it about 80 pages in. Despite that, I was sure I was really going to love this book and there was a lot of hype about it…so I ended up being a bit disappointed. It was still good and went pretty fast, but it just didn’t cut it for me.   In the beginning I was really confused about all the terminology and hierarchies. […]

Carrie’s writing skills have really improved since she wrote Need. I didn’t care for that one, but this one was pretty darn good! Dark and haunting – it definitely had the creep factor. It was a quick read and went smoothly. The descriptions were great but not too lengthy, I was able to get a good picture in my head without getting bored. I think this would make a great movie!   I liked that it switched back and forth […]

There were so many things wrong with this book in the world-building category it’s not even funny, so I’m going to get my complaints out of the way first.   First of all, I would have loved to know what year it’s supposed to be. The only thing she gives you is, “Seventy years ago science perfected the art of children.” So how far in the future from now is that perfection? Your guess is as good as mine. So […]

Review: Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel

Review: Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel

I had mixed feelings about this book. I loved it for the simple fact that it was unique and unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Zombie/Post-Apocalyptic/Steampunk/Victorian all in one…wow! I really enjoyed the history of what went wrong in the world, particularly America, and the physical explanation for the Laz. Fascinating and well developed. The world building was great too, I was able to get a very good hold on the atmosphere Habel painted.   The characters though, not so […]
