This week we’ve got an awesome blogger that’s fairly new to the blogoverse, and one that I’ve had the privilege of meeting in person!!

Meet Amanda!

Hi! My name is Amanda and I’m a 23 year old YA/NA book blogger from Ohio. I love reading, playing video games, riding 4 wheelers, watching movies, and listening to music. I am not ashamed to admit that I often find myself spending alot of time babying my cat, Possum. My boyfriend claims it is excessive, but I don’t agree. I tend to procrastinate on pretty much everything, which is a bad habit I’ve been trying to rid myself of. I currently have 5 tattoos and 3 piercings (even though I’m terrified of needles). Can’t wait to get my next one! Although I’m fairly new to the blogging community, I’m definitely glad I’m here!

[Jessi] Yay for tats and piercings!! They’re so addicting, right? And it’s perfectly fine to baby the kitty ;)

How long have you been blogging? What made you want to start a book blog?

I’ve only been blogging for a few months now. I decided to take the plunge and start my own blog after discovering so many from goodreads. I was just amazed at how creative some of them were and I figured, why not give it a shot myself.

What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?

Unfortunately, I have a full time job that takes up most of my time. Other than that, I do homework for my college courses, spend time with my boyfriend and family, play my Xbox 360, and sleep. I love to sleep.

What is your favorite part about blogging? Least favorite?

My favorite part would be meeting so many awesome new people who share my love of reading! My least favorite part would be all of the drama that can come with it. I see authors constantly attacking bloggers for their honest reviews. Everyone should be able to express their opinions without fear of being attacked or judged.

Where did you come up with the name for your blog?

That’s a funny story actually! I was sitting there at the computer visiting some blogs while eating some chocolate chip cookies. I decided I should just go for it and went to create my blog. I got to the naming part, and I started to draw a blank. Then out of nowhere it dawned on me that I could be like the Cookie Monster, but instead of focusing on cookies, it would be books. Bookie rhymed with cookie. Thus, Confessions of a Bookie Monster was born. Lame, I know. Lol

Do you have any specific book bloggers that inspire you?

Oh, I have many of those! The ones I look up to the most would be Kat from Cuddlebuggery, Kara from Great Imaginations, Lucy over at The Reading Date, and of course – Jessi! :)

[Jessi] Dawww! *blushes*

What do you look for in a blog when following? What are your pet peeves?

I like blogs that are creative and informative. I enjoy reading stuff with a touch of snark in them. :)
My pet peeves include unorganized and messy blogs. When you have side bars full of unnecessary crap, I often feel the need to punch my computer screen. I don’t really like blogs that are boring and detached from the audience. No one wants to read that stuff. :P

What’s your favorite book(s)?

I have a ton of favorites including The Hunger Games series, Under the Never Sky, and Daughter of Smoke and Bone. The list goes on forever!

Favorite author?

Laini Taylor and Leigh Bardugo just to name a couple.

What is the biggest turn off for you when you’re reading a book?

I can’t stand it when the author makes the female characters weak. I like my female characters to be strong and independent! I also hate unbelievable insta-love. It’s overdone and makes me wanna run my head through a wall.

What first draws you to a book to make you want to read it?

I’ll be honest here. I judge books based on their covers a lot. If it has a pretty cover and sounds like an interesting book, I usually give it a shot. I can’t resist gorgeous covers!

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Procrastinator, Creative, Hardworking

Name a random fact about yourself.

I cannot whistle to save my life. It’s just impossible!

Do you have a job? If so, what do you do?

I do have a full time job working third shift for an electronics company. I run a machine that places parts on circuit boards. Not the most fun job ever, but it’s getting me through college!

What did you want to be when you were little? Has that changed?

I always wanted to be a veterinarian up until I got into high school, when I  had to start thinking about possible career paths. I decided it probably wasn’t gonna work for me because I’m scared to death of needles and I couldn’t even think about having to put animals to sleep. :(
I started getting into design work in middle school just for fun. I would redesign menus for the local businesses and they would pay me a few dollars for copies.
Later on, I decided that I would have a lot of fun doing that if it was my main job. So now I’m going to school for graphic design. :)

[Jessi] Holy crap, we have so much in common that it’s scary! I wanted to be a vet for most of my life, too, but the responsibility of having a pet’s life in my hands scares me. And I’ve recently decided on design for my career path! We should definitely talk design sometime :D

Randomness

 Cats or dogs?
Cats (even though I love dogs too)
I guess I’m kinda biased because I have a pretty cool cat. :)

 Favorite animal?
Hmm… Tough question. I’d have to say its a tie between a tiger and a leopard.

 White, dark, or milk chocolate?
Milk chocolate!

 Coke or Pepsi?
Really doesn’t matter to me.

 Favorite TV show?
The Walking Dead.

 Movie?
I could watch any of The Lord of the rings movies all day, every day.

 Color?
Blue.

Thanks for being here today, Amanda! It was great getting to know you! :)

  1. Great interview. I’m the same way with career choice, minus the whole designer thing. LoL I love animals. I was always sneaking strays into the house to feed them. However, I’m terrified of needles. Like I break out in tears when I see one coming at me and I don’t care that I’m 27 years old, I will embarrass myself like I’m a 4 yr old. So not only could I not give an animal a shot but there’s no way in hell I’d be able to put at animal down or console the owner. They’d need to console me.
On another note, the blog link for Amanda takes me to Read Between the Books.

    • I’m definitely with you on the needles thing! I’m completely terrified of needles, yet I’m okay with getting tattoos. Piercings are a little harder for me. I gotta talk myself into getting those. Lol
I’m really glad I didn’t get into veterinary work. I wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure. Designing is much more fun. :)
Thanks for noticing the wrong link! I’ll see if Jessi can fix that soon. :)

  2. I also love to sleep, haha, and gaming :) Yeay for Laini Taylor & Leigh Bardugo, great picks for favorite authors. And FINALLY someone else who can’t whistle! I always feel strange and people laugh when I say I just can’t do it.

  3. I personally love the title Confessions of a Bookie Monster :) Also, graphic design is something that I’m so scared to try and tackle because it seems so hard to get to work Photoshop and Illustrator and programs like that. But I hope designing is a successful path for you, you seem like you’re an awesome designers I can just tell :)

Fantastic interview, Jessi and Amanda! It was nice meeting you!

  4. YOU ARE SO AWESOME. We need to talk more. Lol. I approve of your movie choice. I agree wholeheartedly. Lord of the Rings is just the best thing EVER.

    Awesome interview J & A!
