There were so many things wrong with this book in the world-building category it’s not even funny, so I’m going to get my complaints out of the way first.   First of all, I would have loved to know what year it’s supposed to be. The only thing she gives you is, “Seventy years ago science perfected the art of children.” So how far in the future from now is that perfection? Your guess is as good as mine. So […]

I had mixed feelings about this book. I loved it for the simple fact that it was unique and unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Zombie/Post-Apocalyptic/Steampunk/Victorian all in one…wow! I really enjoyed the history of what went wrong in the world, particularly America, and the physical explanation for the Laz. Fascinating and well developed. The world building was great too, I was able to get a very good hold on the atmosphere Habel painted.   The characters though, not so […]

Cidney Swanson is the first author I’ve had the privilege of talking to (if only via email and twitter). I want to give a special thanks Cidney for her generosity in giving me a copy of this! It was my first experience with Kindle…I figured I would hate reading on an electronic device, but surprisingly it wasn’t too bad. It’s not something I’d prefer over holding the real tangible thing in my hands (and the smell of books…mmmm). But I […]

I was really confused at the beginning because things weren’t explained right away…like the pills, what the heck are the pills?! But soon you find out that the green pill is to calm you, blue is to help you survive in case of emergency…and the red pill is the big mystery. I figured it out right before it was revealed, I was pretty proud of myself. It made sense, really, considering how Society wants to mold everyone. The sleep tags […]

DNF Review: The Faerie Ring by Kiki Hamilton

DNF Review: The Faerie Ring by Kiki Hamilton

I had heard good things about this book, so I bought it. I am now regretting that decision. I made it through 200 pages, more than halfway…and was absolutely bored to death. Everyone talks about the fey being real, but you don’t really see many glimpses of them. There was little to no plot in my opinion and the story was not convincing. The characters didn’t have any personality. There was little to no action. I would have liked to […]
