In the beginning, I wasn’t sure I’d like this book at all. Actually, I was weary of picking it up in the first place. Cotillion and couture aren’t really my thing. The only thing that pushed me to try anyway was the fact that it’s Rachel Hawkins, and I loved her Hex Hall series. In the beginning, I didn’t like it. I found Harper to be extremely shallow. The whole book seemed shallow. I mean, there was an in-depth discussion about lip gloss […]

Review: The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

Review: The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

I’m afraid this is yet another book that has second book syndrome for me, sadly. It just didn’t have the magic that the first book had! I still highly enjoyed Rick Yancey’s writing style. His prose is beautiful! I’m afraid, though, that I didn’t really connect with the story like I’d hoped. As you can see in my Assessment section, my feels were fairly low. Even the super shocking scenes didn’t spark much for me. No gasping, no gaping, no WTF?!s […]

Review: Champion by Marie Lu

Champion was a fast paced thrill ride and was the perfect ending to a stunning series! There was plenty of action, and the war aspect was well portrayed. It was very dark and gritty at times (the perfect picture of war). So many heart pounding scenes, especially with Jameson! June and Day’s relationship was heartbreaking! It was sad that they had been separated for so long, and I hated that they had drifted so far apart and become so distant. […]

Marie Lu’s world building skills never cease to amaze me. She’s so talented at creating a convincing and detailed world! First off, there’s a map. YES. I love when dystopian and high fantasy novels have a freaking map. I’m a very visual person, I need to see the world! Also, there would be parts where she’d get all technical with military things, and it was so realistic! For example: REPUBLIC SHIP DYNASTY | DEPARTURE: 0851 OCEANSTANDARD TIME, 01.13 FROM PHARAOH DOCK,LAS VEGAS, […]

After seeing all the glowing reviews for this book, I was sure I was going to love it; yet at the same time, afraid I wouldn’t. But love it I did! I usually feel kinda blah about alien stories, but this was one of the best ones I’ve ever read! I was hooked right from the very first chapter with the owl, which reminded me of the movie The Fourth Kind (only way, waaaay better). Rick Yancey’s prose is engaging […]

Review: Code by Kathy Reichs

I knew going in that I would enjoy this: Anything Virals is sure to be fun and action-packed. This one was no disappointment! Tory is the same kick-ass leader that I loved in the first two books. She fights for what she believes in and doesn’t give up! I like the whole ragtag pack; nerdy and practical Shelton, enthusiastic Hi, stoic Ben (who kinda disappointed me at one point), and even the adorable furry Coop. They each had their own […]
