Novel Thoughts: In Which I Fail at All 2014 Challenges

Novel Thoughts: In Which I Fail at All 2014 Challenges
Posted by Jessi (Geo) on August 13, 2014 | 12 Comments

I went into the year all gung-ho about my reading challenges. In fact, I set my goals lower than last year and only chose to participate in 4 challenges.   13 books behind schedule. THIRTEEN. How awful is that?! Two years ago, I read 140 books in a year. Last year I read 100. This year, I set my number low to alleviate some of the pressure. And still, I’m failing. *sighs* Granted, I did move into a new house and […]

A guest post by Ashley at Nose Graze Hey folks! My name is Ashley and I have a book blog over at Nose Graze. Huge thanks to Jessi for letting me stop by today. I’m going to address a topic that literally scares the pants off of me. I feel like it’s so touchy and so controversial, it makes me nervous to even think about it too loudly. But it’s time to put on my big girl pants and just get […]

Novel Thoughts: Being a Picky Reader Sucks

Novel Thoughts: Being a Picky Reader Sucks

Being a picky reader sucks  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read a book that everyone else loved, and ended up hating it. I feel like I’m almost always the black sheep compared to the majority of the population. Sometimes I really feel like I’m missing something that made them like it, but sometimes I wonder: Am I just too picky? Here’s a few examples: I don’t like most romance. If it’s not written a certain way, I’m […]

This topic was inspired by Angelfall, which had a name that annoyed me: Raffe. It was meant to be pronounced “rah-fee” (as in, short for Raphael), but every time I saw it my brain automatically read it as”rafe” (rhyming with waif). It bugged the crap out of me!! I had to make an actual effort to pronounce it the correct way, and it made my eye twitch. With some books, it works. Actually, I quite like unique names, because it […]

Novel Thoughts: Has Book Blogging Made Me Too Critical?

Novel Thoughts: Has Book Blogging Made Me Too Critical?

This discussion kind of stems from a discussion I had not too long ago about hype. Has being a book blogger made me a critical reader? Sometimes when I read a book and write down every single complaint I have, I wonder: If I weren’t writing down all these complaints, would I enjoy this book more? If I didn’t keep track of the complaints, would I forget them instead of dwelling on them? If I’ve been subjected to the Hype Monster, […]

Novel Thoughts: Romance in YA

Novel Thoughts: Romance in YA

Romance in YA If you haven’t already figured out by now, I am not a fan of romance. It is extremely rare for me to be fully invested in one, and 90% of the time, I hate them. Why? Because they are (mostly) all the same to me, and seems like they’re getting bogged down with clichés more and more. *coughs*  When a boy character and a girl character are introduced to a story, you automatically know they are going […]
