I’m so excited to be participating in the OWLs for the Magical Readathon this month! I recently discovered this readathon, and this is my first year joining. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of it before! If you’re interested in signing up, you can find all the information you need HERE!

It can be pretty overwhelming at first – there’s a lot of info to take in – but once you get the hang of it, it’s super easy! I personally found it easier to choose a career path based off of the prompts. I went through and looked at all of the careers with middle level prompts (i.e. Wandmaker, Librarian, and Auror all have 5-6 prompts whereas careers like Alchemist and Professor have a super long list of prompts), then chose the ones with prompts I liked better (example: I’m not really a fan of witch books, so I avoided History of Magic in my career prompts).

I was originally going to go with Wandmaker, but when I realized that you HAVE to go with Magizoologist to become a Dragon Tamer, I switched haha! I might still do Wandmaker, or even switch back if I can’t find a dragon book I like. We’ll see!

My career of choice: Magizoologist

Classes required

Care of Magical Creatures – has an animal with a beak on the cover
Book of choice: Oath Taker by Audrey Grey

Charms – has a white cover
Book of choice: Not Even Bones by Rebecca Schaeffer

Herbology – title starts with the letter M
Book of choice: Monstress Vol. 1

Potions – book under 500 pages
Book of choice: Burning by Tamar Sloan

Additional training & courses

Dragon Tamer – read a book with dragons
Book of choice: Black Leviathan by Bernd Perplies

Merpeople Linguistics – additional Herbology title (starts w/ M)
Book of choice: Mortal Danger by Ann Aguirre

You can find the prompts and additional courses info on the readathon website!

Optional training

Here’s some extra stuff I might do if I have time!

Animagus training

Arithmancy – outside of fave genre
Book of choice: Be Not Far From Me by Mindy McGinnis

Potions – under 150 pages
Book of choice: Tales of Beedle the Bard

Transfiguration – shifters
Book of choice: Red Hood by Elana K. Arnold

Defense of Fantastic Beasts

Care of Magical Creatures – has an animal with a beak on cover
Book of choice: Steel Crow Saga by Paul Kreuger

History of Magic – witches/wizards
Book of choice: When Wishes Bleed by Casey L. Bond

Who knows, I might even get a wild hair and do the prompts for both Magizoologist AND Wandmaker XD
