What a glorious read! Out of all the paranormals, weres have always been my favorite – and this book didn’t make them look all fluffy and sweet. Lupine Syndrome is an actual disease, and when infected, the person typically turns into a monster and a killer. Hemlock really portrayed the ugly side of humanity. There was a lot of bigotry and racism towards those infected and it was violent at times. The riot at the protest and the way Branson […]

I knew going in that this book involved bad influence. What was I expecting? I dunno, maybe just a short walk on the wild side. Some drinking, steamy makeout sessions with a bad boy. Not drugs, sex, cheating, lying, and excessive underage drinking. This book really should not be labeled YA. I would NOT want my 13 or 14 year old to read something like this. As an adult book, it would have been somewhat alright. I say somewhat because, […]

To be honest, I’ve been dreading writing this review. These are the hardest to write for me, reviews for those books that don’t spark any passion toward love or hate at all. It’s not that I thought this was a bad book…it’s still 3 starfish for me, but I guess I just couldn’t connect. The plot was decent and the ideas were fresh – I haven’t read anything else like it before. The ideas such as the Hollow, Grays, nexus, […]

I was not a wolf, but I wasn’t Sam yet, either. I was a leaking womb bulging with the promise of conscious thoughts: the frozen woods far behind me, the girl on the tire swing, the sound of fingers on metal strings. The future and the past, both the same, snow and then summer and then snow again. A shattered spider’s web of many colors, cracked in ice, immeasurably sad. “Sam,” the girl said, “Sam.” She was past present future. […]

Let me just say right now that I didn’t read the whole thing (made it to page 169, little more than halfway), but this still isn’t totally a DNF for me because I skimmed the last half and read the ending. So I can, in all fairness, give it a one starfish rating. I do not want to hear even ONE more person compare this book to The Little Mermaid. The only thing remotely similar was that the mermaid (in […]

Review: Spell Bound by Rachel Hawkins

WOWZA. What a stunning, glorious, heart-breaking end to a fantabulous series! Rachel Hawkins really knows how to bring it! From the first page to the very last, I loved every minute and didn’t want to put it down. I do believe Sophie is one of my favorite female leads. I LOVE THIS GIRL. She’s strong and witty and she jokes at the worst moments possible to cover up any weaknesses she feels.  If she were a real person, we’d be biffles! […]
