Partials blew my mismatched little socks right off. From the first sentence to the very last, I was riveted. Honestly, it had my attention even before I started the first chapter, with this: This book is dedicated to the rule breakers, the troublemakers, and the revolutionaries. Sometimes the hand that feeds you needs a good bite. What a brilliant open to a dystopian novel! Then it leads in with this: Newborn #485GA18M died on June 30, 2076, at 6:07 in […]

I’m sorry to say that this is another one that I had to force myself to finish. Through some morbid compulsion, I couldn’t bring myself to put it down. I suppose I was hoping it would get better and have some redeeming qualities, perhaps an unexpected twist or two towards the end, but nope. This book was very predictable. I felt zero surprise, zero joy, and all in all zero emotion. I found myself procrastinating by doing something, anything to […]

I gave this book 2 stars (it was ok) even though it wasn’t ok for me because I didn’t really like it at all. But there wasn’t anything fundamentally wrong with it except for the simple fact that it wasn’t for me. There was pretty much nothing happening for the first 3/4 of the book except a bunch of music jargon – all stuff about bands/singers I either a) don’t like, b) don’t give an ass rat’s about, or c) […]

I had absolutely no idea that this book was in verse until I read a review for it a week or two ago, and by that time I had already requested it from the library. I’m glad I didn’t know, because I might not have read it. This was my first experience with verse and not something I would have willingly chosen. At first it was a little hard to follow the broken sentences, but when I got used to […]

This story was beautiful and enchanting. I loved all the magical beings mentioned; sylphs, centaurs, trolls, and my favorite – dragons. I have always had an affinity for dragons, so that aspect alone made me like it even more. Also, I love originality and Incarnate had it in bounds. The idea of the same souls being reincarnated lifetimes over, the being known as ‘Janan’ (their God), and the unique take on sylphs and dragons. Everything about the world created was […]

A lot of times, when you see a book cover this beautiful, it’s compensating for something – as in, the lack of story in between the covers. This was not the case with Everneath. The story was just as beautiful as the cover. It broke my heart and crushed my soul. Like a grape. Okay, hold the phone, now I have to share a video… This whole clip is great, but I’m embedding it for a certain few seconds, 1:12 […]
