Marie Lu’s world building skills never cease to amaze me. She’s so talented at creating a convincing and detailed world! First off, there’s a map. YES. I love when dystopian and high fantasy novels have a freaking map. I’m a very visual person, I need to see the world! Also, there would be parts where she’d get all technical with military things, and it was so realistic! For example: REPUBLIC SHIP DYNASTY | DEPARTURE: 0851 OCEANSTANDARD TIME, 01.13 FROM PHARAOH DOCK,LAS VEGAS, […]

Review: In the After by Demitria Lunetta

Review: In the After by Demitria Lunetta

Before was reality; the After, a nightmare.  In the After was fabulous! The world that Lunetta painted drew me in and I loved it! I think the driving point in this book was the relationship between Amy and Baby. It was beautiful and real and had me rooting for them to succeed. Amy was very protective of Baby, but Baby was perfectly capable of holding her own as well. I absolutely LOVED the fact that they spoke in sign language! […]

I’m not really sure what to think of this book overall. I had a lot of issues with the world building, but it was so unique I couldn’t help but enjoy it anyway. I had a very difficult time in the beginning because I was really struggling to understand all of the terms and trying to envision the world. Things were not explained very well at all. I had a hard time picturing anything in my head, and thinking about […]

I was seriously looking forward to this book! It was one of my most anticipated summer releases. I was seriously disappointed. It’s not that I didn’t like it. It was just meh. And for some reason it really reminded me of Doomed by Tracy Deebs, so it kinda felt like I had read it already. My main problem was that I didn’t give a crap about any of the characters. They were all cardboard cutouts with little to no personality […]

Review: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Review: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

After seeing all the glowing reviews for this book, I was sure I was going to love it; yet at the same time, afraid I wouldn’t. But love it I did! I usually feel kinda blah about alien stories, but this was one of the best ones I’ve ever read! I was hooked right from the very first chapter with the owl, which reminded me of the movie The Fourth Kind (only way, waaaay better). Rick Yancey’s prose is engaging […]

Review: Parallel by Lauren Miller

“Often it is the choices that seem inconsequential that uproot us.” I love books that make you think. And Parallel was definitely one of those books! To be honest, my enjoyment of this book didn’t come from the characters, or the prose, but from the idea of it. The concept of a parallel universe is mind boggling – even more so when two realities collide and intertwine. The story was told from alternating points of view: Abby’s perspective in the present, […]
